The doctors think I’m having a missed miscarriage.
i should be 7 weeks but baby is measuring 5 weeks, which would mean I fell pregnant a week after a positive test.
ive to go for a rescan in two weeks.

those who have had a miscarriage like this, how long did it take for your body to to let go of the baby?
or did you have to take medication/surgery?

thank you

Hello sorry you going through this 🩷

iv had a mmc. I waited 2 weeks and my body still didn’t want to let go - was horrible as still had sickness/tiredness so had false hope 😢 I ended up taking the medication and was over pretty quickly thankfully. Any questions I’m happy to answer, I know how lonely it can be x

Sending you love.

In my case, I passed everything the morning of the second scan. I still went along to the scan to make sure everything had gone.

Hoping for a better outcome for you.

aLogLady · 26/01/2026 18:15

So sorry OP, it is heartbreaking. At my 6ish week scan I was behind, confirmed at 8 weeks and surgery planned for week 10, took the pill that softens your cervix and the pregnancy passed itself in the hospital before I needed the surgery. Was good to get a scan immediately after to show that everything had passed. You’re not alone in this, lot of people here thinking of you 💐

Niftymum88 · 26/01/2026 19:30

’m completely second guessing the first scan and everything else.
lmp 8/12
first positive test 29/12
so should be 7 weeks
scan yesterday says 5 weeks 1 day.

my friend also had a scan yesterday she should have been 7 weeks 4 days but measured 6 weeks 5 days and heartbeat was seen.

is it possible the sonographer has given me the wrong info of it being a miscarriage or am I clutching to straws

Sorry OP, if your positive test was 29/12 the very earliest you would have been then was 3 weeks as it is very unlikely you’d get a positive before then. So the very earliest you’d have been at scan is 7 weeks, probably a little later. Scans can be a little inaccurate as we’re talking mm, but 2 weeks out is a lot. Did they detect a heartbeat?

aLogLady · 27/01/2026 06:46

I was 7 days behind in one of my scans this pregnancy (and ivf so I know my dates) and the next scan I was about 4 days behind, and since have been measuring spot on. It was a difficulty of scanning. In one TA scan my bladder was too full and compressed the image meaning I “caught up” a few days just by peeing. So it is possible for anomalies of anatomy etc to give inaccurate results. But then two weeks… and then measuring you as around 5, does that mean there was a yolk sac but no fetal pole or heartbeat? That’s what was found in my mmc. You said it was doctors giving you advice? So not a non medical environment and presumably experienced sonographers. I would be guarding my heart. I understand wanting to believe there’s a chance, and who knows, maybe some error has been made, but I’m not sure it’s likely from what you’ve told us. But I’ll be hoping for you.

This was the scan report.

just been to the gp, they refuse to refer me to epu.
said it’s normal to be measuring 5 weeks because then when conception would have happened

Sorry I don’t want to give you false hope 😢 but 2 weeks behind is not looking good. A few days maybe. I’m sorry if this sounds harsh but I wish someone had been brutally honest with me instead I read lots of people saying it’s normal, it’s so small so can get dates wrong etc.

i don’t recommend lying…. But I would probably say iv had bleeding/pain to get this sorted sooner. It’s vile making women suffer longer than necessary when the nurses know deep down it won’t be good news 😢❤️

Pregnancy isn’t measured from conception, it’s measured from lmp at this stage, so an embryo measuring 5 weeks is 3 weeks from conception roughly. I’d get a second opinion from another GP to get referred as the one you spoke to doesn’t seem to know about pregnancy.

aLogLady · 27/01/2026 12:36

Did you say where you got this scan done? Sorry I assumed epu if medical, was it an nhs/private medical clinic or something else?

SJM1988 · 27/01/2026 12:39

Sending hugs. I've been through 2 MMCs.

Was your scan done by the NHS? As hard as it is, you need to wait out the 2 weeks for a rescan. Its standard policy to see if anything changes in those 2 weeks. Anything close could be down to human error. The margins they are measuring are so small, they need to see significant change. The closest I managed to get them to do was 10 days. They refused any shorter between scans.

Both of mine I should have been 8 weeks and I was only showing just short of 6 weeks (about 10 days behind and no heartbeat). Pretty conclusive they were MMC's but they still had to do the rescan.
First I miscarried naturally at 10 weeks (the morning I was to go and pick up the medical management tablets)

Second also at 10 weeks but I had to take the tablets to get it started.
I opted not for surgical management.

Niftymum88 · 27/01/2026 14:50

It was a private scan on Sunday which saw a fetal pole measuring 2.2mm.
ive gone for a different private scan today and only a yolk sac was seen.
so I’m expecting to pass anytime tbh.

So the scan on Sunday was private. I rung out of hours gp and that’s what they said.
but when to see a gp face to face and got a totally different answer.
i stupidly went to a different place for a scan for a second opinion this afternoon. And only saw a gestational sack measuring 6 weeks but no fetal pole.
where as on Sunday there was a fetal pole measuring 2.2mm

Just a little update

managed to get in at epu for a scan on Friday.
they were very reassuring.

upon my scan on Sunday I did do a clear blue and it said 2-3 weeks which left me even more deflated.
today nausea has hit hard, I thought sod it I have another test so took it, and it’s at 3+.

ive never been so confused in all my life

aLogLady · 29/01/2026 06:19

Ah brilliant, I didn’t know what to say because I basically wanted to say “go to epu” but knew your gp wasn’t helping. What a confusing time. You’ll be in the right hands with epu, however this goes they’ll be able to look after you best.

Niftymum88 · 30/01/2026 10:55

Update
had a scan done at epu
measuring 3.5mm not heartbeat yet
She said she can’t confirm anything at this stage. And can’t go by the private scan.
Got to go back for another scan in two weeks.
I’m taking it as a positive.
Cos it’s grown from 2.2mm on Sunday to 3.5mm
