When did your second baby arrive?

i went into labour with my first at 39+2 and having a scheduled section this time around at 39+5 due to the hospital being very busy. I’m a bit anxious about as I know second babies often come earlier😳

When did your second baby arrive compared to the first?

One day later!

Ds1 37 wks 3 hour labour
Ds2 38 wks 1 hour 40 labour.

so a week later but half the time!

Almost 4 wks difference. First was induced and born at 41wks ended in emcs. Second baby I was meant to have a planned section but waters broke spontaneously before bed at 37+4 and she was born by section the next morning. Not the calm planned one I hoped for and I laboured again this time for about 11hrs before she was born.

I thought it was more common for them to be similar by a few days or a week, well most people I know that’s been the case. It’s usually the labour is a lot quicker clearly not in my case 🤣

Both of mine came at 39+1.

I was pregnant with dc 2 for 4 weeks and 5 days longer than dc1.

Dc1 born at 36 weeks.
Dc2 born at 40+5.

DC2 35+6 although I'd been having pains for days before.

First arrived at 37+0 (spontaneous labour at 36+6).
Second arrived at 39+0 (labour triggered by membrane sweep).

First was 40+15
Second 40+10
Third 40+4

Second birth was by far the easiest. Absolute dream birth! Second stage was 4 minutes, 2 pushes. By the time he was a few days old I genuinely did not feel like I had just had a baby at all. I hope you have the same experience :)

My babies are very punctual 😆

DS1 induced at 39+3, arrived at 40w
DS2 spontaneous labour at 39+4

My midwife told me 2nd babies don't necessarily come earlier, but the labour can be quicker. True in my case as DS1 I was pushing for over 2 hours and he was eventually dragged out with forceps, and DS2 I was pushing for about 10mins.

First was 38+3 but that was my only induction - I was already 3cm though so would have been born in the next few days anyway

Third was 31+1

37+4.
Elective section.

My first and my third both arrived at 39+2.

The second was too comfy and didn't emerge until 40+5.

Both of mine were 9 days past due date.

Same gestation, give or take a couple of days. Both natural labours although second took longer than the first (despite me being convinced second time is faster!) but there was a big difference in size between number one and number two which probably contributed.

Ds1 born at 41+4, Ds2 born at 40+6, Ds3 born at 40+2

Ds1 was born the day before I was meant to be induced, ds2 at lunchtime on the day and ds3 in the evening after I'd waited all day to be induced.

DD1 labour started 40+3, born 40+5
DD2 Born in 2.5hrs 41+2

I had in my head that my second would be born at 38 weeks because it was bound to be two weeks earlier! Why? Who knows 😅

DS1 was two days before dd, DS2 one day before, DS3 I'm ashamed to say I have forgotten!! (Typical of the third . . . ) But it was def before rather than after the dd and I reckon actually slightly earlier than the others, maybe 4 or 5 days before? All pretty similar though. In your circs I would assume your mw would keep an eye on you in the last couple of weeks.

First was a week late. EMCS
Second was 10 days late. Was trying for VBAC but they made me have an elective as she was showing no signs of wanting to come out and they wouldn’t induce me having already had one section.

Had a section scheduled but first baby decided he wanted out at just under 37 weeks (waters broke). Second came as planned at 38 weeks.
