My child had chickenpox a few weeks ago when I was 8 weeks pregnant. I had a blood test done which confirmed that I haven’t had it yet so I am not immune. At that time I got prescribed acyclovir 800 mg tablets to take it for 7 days. After I finished the course we both went back to work which is a nursery. Again there was an outbreak of chickenpox. I am now 11 weeks pregnant and the doctor is prescribed me again the acyclovir 800 mg. Is it safe to take it this often during pregnancy? I am worried if it will cause anything to my baby.

Did you ask your doctor when you were prescribed it? If not, just give the surgery a ring.

This page indicates it’s fine though:

If you catch chicken pox during pregnancy that can be dangerous so i would go with the doctors advice and take the medication they advise.

I will take it of course , was just curious how safe is this for the baby as my doctor wasn’t very helpful to explain it to me.
