Hi to all,

I am very scared and just wondered if anyone has been in a similar situation.

I will start from beginning, sorry.

I am supposed to be 6w+5, LMP 27th April, 33 day cycle due to MC (normally 27-29, Phase of 10 days.

I have been having a little trouble with the "old water works" . When I have been to the toilet and emptied my bladder there is loads of little pains which goes after a minute but leaves me feeling like I need to go again. Well, anyway, that was last weekend.

Yesterday I had a low pain and it hurt on pressing, so I went to see Doctor and he tested the sample,. but it was ok. He sent me for a scan. At the scan they could not see very much. They told me that I was measuring 4 -5 weeks. I am not sure how this can be as I tested positive two weeks ago. Now I am confused as to when I am due, how they got their dates or if there is a problem at all.

They told me that everything appears normal for a 4 - 5 weeks pregnancy. Even the sample I gave was normal. But if I am actually further than this, does this mean that there is a problem?

early scans arent very accurate. IIRC sparklygothkat dates were two weeks behind which meant she tested positive before she was pregnant.

Hi. I had a viability scan at 7wks - and was pretty sure of my dates re: ovulation. They told me that I was only 5 - 6 weeks along. I knew this couldn't be true as dh had been away around the time making me 6 weeks and also the fact I'd had a bfp 3 weeks earlier! I had another scan at 10wks which confirmed my original dates. I'm now 24 wks.
So try not to worry too much. I think it's pretty common for these early scans to date you slightly less than you are. Congratulations btw!

They spent ages looking at the scan and shaking their heads. I was really crying by this time. But as my Spanish is not very good I could not understand what they were doing. I realised that they were comparing the size to the the chart that they had. It was not until I told them that the Doctor told me I was due on the 1st of Feb and I had worked out that it could be as late as 10th Feb, they agreed. Even with this date it would make me 5 weeks still, and that is after using one of the website calculators you find.

I was wondering how you are!

Sorry that you are still not much clearer to knowing what's going on.

When you say sample - do you mean urine sample? Have they sent off your urine to be tested? Your symptoms do fit in with a urinary tract infection.

Did they take a blood test for pregnancy hormones? Your hormone levels should double every tow - three days, so a series of blood tests should give an indication of how well your pregnancy is going.

That does help me a little both of you. Thank you.

I am going to see my Consultant on Tuesday anyway and I have a report and scan picture to take. I am also going to "arm" myself with all the dates that I think are correct for me, like the ov date and conception date, plus also irregular cycle dates etc.

Hi belgo.

Yes is was a urine sample. Both hospital and GP took one. The Doctor tested it while I waited and also at the Hospital.

I have had no blood tests at the moment, they are just using the results of my previous test that they did privately a month ago for immunities etc.

I went back to Doctor a week after first two tests and there was another positive and it was a little stronger.

I have pages and pages of blood results. You get them given to you here. The Hspital does not store any of you paperwork and you have to carry it around with you. My Daughter even got to take home all her x-rays. They also sent me a detailed post mortem report for my 15w miscarriage. That was terrible and upsetting to read. My translator did not want to read it to me. Things are not as sensitive here I feel.

p.s.

They had nothing to report on the urine samples. They appeared normal, as did the internal examination and scan.

no that doesn't sound very sensitive, how very upsetting for you.

I hope the consultant on tuesday is a little more helpful, and finally get some answers.

Sorry to rant,

I had to think about DD1. I know she was conceived on feb 14th. My Doctor went by the LMP date and told me I was due middle of November. When I looked on the internet, it said that if a baby was conceived on this date of 14th, then she should have been born in the middle of October. In actual fact she was born in the beginning of December after they said I was two weeks late. I must have been more that this as I know for definate that the date of conception for many reasons and could not have been any other time.

I wonder what happened there then

here is the BBC pregnancy calender, you can put in the date of conception and it will give you an accurate due date.

BagelBird · 13/06/2008 09:37

Another who had awful scan dates given that caused a huge deal of stress and worry - perhaps the baby was not growing properly etc. All turned out fine. This happened with both of my girls who arrived healthy and on time (my time late by mw dates )
I sympathise as I was worried sick over it all. However, from experience I know that the main thing is that your sample is fine and they confirmed your pregnancy for you - congratulations

Thank you.

I soppose I need to really wait for 12 week scan. I am trying to be optomistic.

My consultant has said that they will be keeping close eye on me and at least I have the care of a local GP, Midwife and also my Consultant. The trouble is, is that the Consultant is based quite a way from my house in the City and it is hard to get to him.

My Midwife care is very strange. They book you in as soon as you know you are pregnant. They send you for blood tests and give you an appointment to see you at 12 weeks and nothing else. There is no other communication. I can not ask her any questions as we do not understand each other. As long as she checks me, I know that everything is ok. I am at least able to telephone my Consultant and also my private healthcare Doctor help line who are a great help.

I just want to make sure the baby is growing properly. The scan pciture is so tiny there is nothing to see apart from a black dot.

They do worry you. I am hoping it has not stopped growing and turning into another mc. On the scan of the mc there you could see an irregular shaped space where they said the pregnancy had not even started and was empty although I was pregnant. As they could not see inside this time I hope this one is not empty. I hated it when they kept shaking their heads and not telling me anything. I was surprised when they said that I looked normal for a 4 - 5 week pregnancy, I expected them to say there was nothing there. I still do not know if there is anything inside.

I am trying to stay positive. At least I can say that I am pregnant for now and that feels nice to say for as long as it lasts.

One thing is I am pleased to say is that when they say "going to spend a penny" they do not actually mean it, otherwise this pregnancy is going to cost me a fortune in bathroom visits so far this week.

Just been for another scan last night. It does not look very good and I was warned not to build my hopes up.

My Consultant did it this time rather than the hospital. She again measured it to be 15mm the same as the hospital. She was concerned that it had not grown in the 4 days (actually 5).

Although she did say to me that it was the right size for 6 weeks, whereas the hospital said 4 - 5 weeks.

She showed me the embryo and that was all. I have to go back in two weeks, but I can't wait that long I feel really low, sad and confused.

You poor girl. It sounds very difficult and I do feel for you. Could you get a second opinion somewhere and take a Spanish speaker with you?
