Hi. I've been searching for answers for a while and just havent found anyone with the same dilemma.
I'm 13 weeks pregnant and have been taking progesterone 400mg twice a day because of reoccurrent miscarriage for the last 4 years.
I have been told to take it until 16 weeks pregnant and even though it's not far off, I'm feeling like progesterone is having a sedative affect. I'm finding myself very tired and literally needing naps frequently. I'm just struggling abit with it cos I'm constantly tired.
Is anyone in this position and learned how to ease off the sedative affect?
I don't want to stop taking it until they have told me to stop which is 16 weeks. I've seen the baby 3 times now and all is going well so I'd like to just bite the bullet and continue taking it but it really is annoying me cos I'm so tired and I have a 4yo at home so it doesn't help

No solutions but I'm also a progesterone zombie with the added fun of steroids that give me insomnia! I'm on them until eighteen weeks 😬 .

Sympathy! I too was a progesterone zombie 🤣 I appreciate it must be tough with a four year old, but genuinely don't theres anything to do.

I’m 11 weeks today and have also been on the same pessaries since finding out I was pregnant. I need to carry on until 16 weeks, history of recurrent miscarriage. I can’t wait to stop, I’ve felt awful this pregnancy with extreme nausea and tiredness with no sign of anything easing up yet. Never considered the progesterone making things worse though! Also a 2.5year old to look after… better days are coming!

For me nausea improved around 11-12 weeks BUT the fatigue will probably not stop until you stop the pessaries at 16 weeks. What's your dosage and when do you take them?
I totally feel you. Having a small child in the mix, it doesn't make it easier 😅

I’m also on 400mg twice daily. TMI but I take them rectally as I find this much easier and less mess. Having said that I’ve been so gassy this time round and just a bit uncomfortable. I remember with our successful pregnancy when using progesterone they advised I could reduce my dose in half from week 15, so I’ll probably do the same this time around.

Ahh yes it does makes sense! I thought about it aswell but I was already leaking anyway so I've just been using pads.
Hopefully week 15 hurries up for you.
I'm gonna continue taking them until 16 weeks because I just don't want to risk it and I'm close now.
I think because I'm having a hard time at home on top of it all, it has an affect on my lack of interest in things so I end up just allowing it to take over.
Hopefully getting my energy back at week 16 will help revive me lol

How are you getting on? Did anything improve energy wise?

Pk1421 · 09/02/2026 09:48

Yes actually my energy level returned while still on progesterone!
I'm actually 17 weeks now and having a baby boy eek! I've finished progesterone. I was scared the first few days but then I had a private gender scan that proved everything was good and it made me feel better. Nomore needing to nap desperately.
How are you getting on?

Awww that’s brilliant news! Congratulations. Do you already have a boy or a girl? Glad that you managed to get some energy back. My nausea has eased slightly, still bad in the evenings but much better in comparison. I have hit next level tired, I wake up feeling tired! I’ve got less than 2 weeks left of progesterone so counting down the days haha
