Severely shortened cervix

Hello, bit of background. TTC 4.5 years. One MMc, one ectopic, 4 failed rounds of IVF and one current 16+2 pregnancy which was going swimmingly.

I had an intense lletz 2 years ago, 3x10mm passes and another unmeasured. I also had a massive haemorrhage two weeks later involving 4 transfusions plus platelets, still getting over it.

anyway, went for my first cervical scan today thinking the worst it would be is nearing their cut off (25mm) but it’s 11mm. It’s closed. She’s asked me to come back in tomorrow to attempt the stitch (but might not be enough cervix to stitch). I included my backstory to emphasise that this is likely the only close to successful pregnancy I’ll achieve. I’m a little numb/can’t believe it/crying intermittently. So sad to be back in a hole instead of the shiny enjoyment.

can anyone give me stories of success (which I would deem reaching 31 weeks, or similar)? I just feel so sad and scared.

On Saturday I’ll be 26 weeks @blankcanvas3 it’s funny (though I expected as much) how the goalposts change. Definitely have 32 weeks now as my big hopeful outcome, when at 16 weeks I thought 24 would be amazing. Never satisfied heh!

You're doing amazingly @Nosejug and Baby Nosejug!! ❤️

Mmmchocolatebuttons · 19/03/2026 11:10

So happy for you @Nosejug. I'm 26 weeks tomorrow so we're almost due date twins!

MedusasHead · 20/03/2026 20:31

Aww we’re all rooting for you @Nosejug. 26 weeks is great news!

Nosejug · 22/03/2026 07:50

hehe thanks everyone, and hey almost twin! I found a cross stitch sampler (from museum of childhood) in a charity shop and considered putting ‘baby nosejug’ instead of their real name hehe (not that we have already officially named them!)

How are you getting on, @Nosejug? Almost 30 weeks, I hope!

Nosejug · 17/04/2026 21:45

Hehe yes @Mmmchocolatebuttons 30 weeks tomorrow. Had a consultant appointment the other day and we were both like… wow! She said the flip side of it having lasted so long without shortening further/opening is that it might not actually open in labour 🙃 but hey! If that’s the price I pay for a healthy baby I’ll take it! How’ve you been getting on?
