Severely shortened cervix

Hello, bit of background. TTC 4.5 years. One MMc, one ectopic, 4 failed rounds of IVF and one current 16+2 pregnancy which was going swimmingly.

I had an intense lletz 2 years ago, 3x10mm passes and another unmeasured. I also had a massive haemorrhage two weeks later involving 4 transfusions plus platelets, still getting over it.

anyway, went for my first cervical scan today thinking the worst it would be is nearing their cut off (25mm) but it’s 11mm. It’s closed. She’s asked me to come back in tomorrow to attempt the stitch (but might not be enough cervix to stitch). I included my backstory to emphasise that this is likely the only close to successful pregnancy I’ll achieve. I’m a little numb/can’t believe it/crying intermittently. So sad to be back in a hole instead of the shiny enjoyment.

can anyone give me stories of success (which I would deem reaching 31 weeks, or similar)? I just feel so sad and scared.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

On Saturday I’ll be 26 weeks @blankcanvas3 it’s funny (though I expected as much) how the goalposts change. Definitely have 32 weeks now as my big hopeful outcome, when at 16 weeks I thought 24 would be amazing. Never satisfied heh!

You're doing amazingly @Nosejug and Baby Nosejug!! ❤️

Mmmchocolatebuttons · 19/03/2026 11:10

So happy for you @Nosejug. I'm 26 weeks tomorrow so we're almost due date twins!

MedusasHead · 20/03/2026 20:31

Aww we’re all rooting for you @Nosejug. 26 weeks is great news!

Nosejug · 22/03/2026 07:50

hehe thanks everyone, and hey almost twin! I found a cross stitch sampler (from museum of childhood) in a charity shop and considered putting ‘baby nosejug’ instead of their real name hehe (not that we have already officially named them!)

How are you getting on, @Nosejug? Almost 30 weeks, I hope!

Nosejug · 17/04/2026 21:45

Hehe yes @Mmmchocolatebuttons 30 weeks tomorrow. Had a consultant appointment the other day and we were both like… wow! She said the flip side of it having lasted so long without shortening further/opening is that it might not actually open in labour 🙃 but hey! If that’s the price I pay for a healthy baby I’ll take it! How’ve you been getting on?

How are you getting on, @Nosejug??

Mmmchocolatebuttons · 23/05/2026 18:03

Completely missed that you'd replied @Nosejug!! Getting on very well and in the home stretch now! So glad that everything was looking great and hopefully still is.

blankcanvas3 · 23/05/2026 20:54

Are you 34 weeks now @Nosejug? So close!

Nosejug · 23/05/2026 21:29

35 weeks today! It’s amazing. I so wish I could go back and comfort my past self (or at least serve as a story of hope for anyone else with a very short cervix from surgery). It’s very nice swapping the inner fears and anxieties for very physical aches and pains that come with a growing baby hehe. Thanks everyone for asking :) I did mean to update again and again, but kept thinking “I’ll wait one more week”. Running out of weeks to wait! 🌞 💫

Fabulous news. I'm the poster that has had a short cervix in 4 pregnancies. I'm currently holding my 2 week old baby girl ❤️
Hoping everything goes well for you and can't wait to hear you've got your baby in your arms. Sending loads of love.

Waitingforday6 · 28/05/2026 12:07

I'm so happy to hear this! Fingers crossed for the homestretch! I am taking a break from most Infertility posts due to a recent loss but am so invested in Baby Nosejug so kept those notifications on! ❤️

Baby Nosejug born yesterday at 3am after PPROM the morning before. She was on breathing support but already off it, and is having antibiotics and help with feeding but is glorious and well and very very sweet. Can’t wait till I can have her on or in my sights me 24/7 hehe! She made it all the way to 36+6 so a very happy ending to the story.

thanks everyone for the cheerleading and various important and appreciated support along the way. Honestly felt like I had a personal team rooting for us! :)
