Cramps, when to worry in early pregnancy

I’ve just found out I’m expecting. This will be my third (4th pregnancy)
it’s been almost 5 years since being pregnant.
I’ve got a lot of period like cramps. It’s most of the day and noticed in the night last night too.

At what point should I worry, I’m about 4 weeks.

Perfectly normal for period like cramps in the first few weeks (like weeks 4-7ish)!

I am 4w 3d and have cramping - I just chatgpt'd it and got this info. Found it reassuring.

Why cramping is expected in early pregnancy

At 4–6 weeks, the uterus is:

  • Responding to progesterone
  • Increasing blood flow dramatically
  • Beginning to soften and expand
  • Sharing space with bowel + bladder changes

This produces:

  • Period-like cramps
  • Pulling / stretching sensations
  • Pressure low in the pelvis

Studies consistently show that most viable early pregnancies involve cramping, often without bleeding.

In fact, many midwives consider absence of any sensation unusual rather than reassuring.

@thismonthsfad
thats really helped. Thank you.
I vaguely remember having cramps last time but they were in waves rather than constant or lasting for hours.
thank you for sharing.
I hope you’re feeling well.

Mine have been constant with only the occasional break and are worse in the evening. I’ve had some lower back pain, a 3 day headache, some nausea and I’m very tired. I’m also over the moon to be feeling these pregnancy symptoms. Lapping up every moment of it as it’s a first for me.
From the sounds of it, it’s totally normal x
