When did everyone get their first NHS scan date? Had my booking appointment a few weeks ago and havent heard anything else. Im 10 weeks now and just wasnt sure when to expect it.

We do not want to spend the money on a private scan atm

Does it come by post, email or on the pregnancy notes ? X

First scan NHS scan was around 12 weeks. How you hear about it depends on your hospital, some send letters or texts etc. I would maybe phone the hospital to double check in case a letter has gone missing :)

Mine came onto my badger notes app a couple of days after the booking appt.
it also appeared on my nhs app and then I got the letter via email (I’d already set up to get NHS letters by email not post)
12 week scan at exactly 12 weeks for me, but I know it can realistically be up to 14 weeks.

I hadn't even been booked in at 10 weeks, never mind the scan. I think I had it at 13 or 14 weeks. I think it is hospital dependent.

Wherestheteenguide · 08/01/2026 15:32

I booked in around 8weeks and they sent a letter day or two after and it's booked in for what will be 12 weeks.

Ps I'm literally counting the days!

Megaaan23 · 08/01/2026 17:46

I had my booking appointment on Tuesday and my midwife texted me with the scan date and time a few hours later the same day x

It's totally dependent on your hospital.

I had a 10wk booking appointment the first time and received a letter with a scan date shortly afterwards for 12wks.

I've moved area now and this time I had a booking appointment at 8wks then my scan date appeared on my Badger Notes app very soon afterwards (maybe even that evening!) They then booked my 20wk scan while I was at the 12wk one. This trust is VERY efficient!

Congratulations!

Just to say that in line with NHS antenatal screening guidelines, you should be offered an appointment for a first trimester scan (usually called the 12-week scan) to take place anytime between 11 and 14 weeks.

It’s important to mention here the antenatal screening blood tests that go alongside the scan. If you plan on having combined screening (screening for all three trisomies), this should be done before 14 weeks. Blood tests screening for T18 and T13 can only be done up until 14 weeks, whereas T21 can be done until 20 weeks.

In answer to your actual question though, it’s worth contacting your maternity team to ask if an appointment has been made - better to nag than to miss it! 😊

I've had lots of dating scans. Earliest was 9 weeks, latest was 15 weeks.
