5-6 weeks pregnant, on/off pink spotting for days, no pain. Looking for reassurance, not scare stories

Hi everyone,
I’m posting because I’m feeling really anxious and would really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s had a similar experience. I’m currently 5 weeks + 3 days pregnant. I first noticed a very small amount of bright pink spotting at exactly 5 weeks. It has now been four days but it isn’t constant. It doesn’t happen every time I wee or every time I go to the toilet, and I’ve never had anything on my underwear or needed a pad. It’s usually just when I wipe, and it’s very light pink. Once or twice it’s been more discharge-y and pink when wiping slightly higher. Yesterday I did push tissue up quite high and saw a bit of brighter red blood, but that was a one-off and it didn’t continue.

I’ve had no cramps at all, no clots, no pain, and no increase into a proper bleed. Today I’ve only had one very small episode of light pink spotting in the afternoon and nothing since. I’ve also had a really bad chest infection and have been coughing a lot, which makes me wonder if that could be irritating my cervix. I did have a miscarriage last year so I’m finding this really triggering, although with that pregnancy the bleeding didn’t actually cause the loss and the gestational sac continued to grow for a while.

One other thing that’s worrying me is that between weeks 4 and 5 I had very strong symptoms, especially extremely painful sore boobs and quite bad constipation. Over the last couple of days both of those symptoms have eased and pretty much disappeared, which is making me question everything, even though I know symptoms can fluctuate in early pregnancy.

To add some context, my pregnancy tests have been very strong throughout. I tested again yesterday and the line was a dye stealer, and my digital test is still showing 3+ weeks. I know nobody can predict outcomes, but I’d really love to hear from anyone who’s had ongoing light spotting like this at around 5 weeks, especially alongside symptoms easing, and gone on to have a normal pregnancy. I’m quite health-anxious so I’d really appreciate no scare stories if possible, just real experiences. Thank you so much in advance.

I had some early spotting like that. I contacted my midwife and she put me in for a scan ASAP. It turned out to be nothing serious and DD is now 18.

Contact your midwife - that's what she's for - so that you can have an early scan and relax.

congrats !

Blossom45 · 03/01/2026 16:26

I had a similar experience around 6 weeks. My gp was really understanding of my worries and referred me to the EPU for an early scan, where I measured exactly on track with a strong heartbeat. The EPU midwife said it can be caused by a bowel movement, sex, exercise etc. That pregnancy resulted in my now very lively toddler.

Stardust1204 · 03/01/2026 16:34

Ok hearing these 2 stories have brought me out from the doom hole I’ve been in today, having this horrendous chest infection and forced to lay in bed and have nothing to do but doom scroll all miscarriage stories have really upset me.

As I’m 5+3 my area is super strict on “no referrals till 6 weeks” which I totally get as no reassurance can happen before then but I also know my GPs policy is wait a week do another test and then we can refer you. I did tests yesterday so will do some more on Monday to see if still a dye stealer and still 3+ digital and will let GP know :(. It’s also the literal PTSD of having these early scans again, my MMC was horrendous… I had 3/4 scans before they called it as there was a blood clot in the empty sac which kept growing till 9 weeks. I then had MVA that week and then my wedding 2 days later so safe to say I am so scared.

Sorry for the ramble , thank you ladies

Hi hun I’m 5+2! I had the same as u a couple days ago for 4/5 days and then it stopped now I’m getting the normal white / creamy discharge sorry if it’s tmi.. try not to stress and calm the epu in local hosp and explain to them

CheshireCat1 · 04/01/2026 00:17

I lost blood from week 11 to week 24 on and off. Had an internal scan, baby was fine. I did cause a lot of stress during my pregnancy though. He’s now a strapping 28 year old and an absolute joy.

Crispynoodle · 04/01/2026 00:21

This happened to my DD at exactly the same time all was perfectly normal she did book a private scan just to reassure herself

Pyjamatimenow · 04/01/2026 00:25

I spotted up to 12 weeks with dd1. Dd2 I had what looked like a full period and I wouldn’t have known I was pregnant if I hadn’t tested. It can be totally normal. There’s a lot of bedding in that goes on in there I guess!

3petitpois · 04/01/2026 00:33

I had exactly this on and off week 5 - 7. Had 2 internal scans and both were as expected. I also had spotting week 15-19 (due to low placenta) and all turned out fine - DS is now 8 :) I know it’s terrifying as like you I saw the spotting and immediately assumed the worst (and I became quite obsessed with checking my underwear/wiping with a tissue) so I hope these positive outcomes can give you some reassurance x

McGregor33 · 04/01/2026 01:36

In my 3rd pregnancy I bled heavily, I was filling a pad in less than an hour and I genuinely couldn’t see how I’d still have a baby. It was a hematoma and I bled consistently. That baby is now currently in toddlerhood ruling the house ❤️

EsmeArcher · 04/01/2026 01:45

Yes, and she’s just turned 29!
Now that is scary 😉
I hope everything goes well for you, especially as you’ve had a MMC. I had one too and it does put you on high alert for subsequent pregnancies.

aLogLady · 04/01/2026 08:22

In my current pregnancy from 6ish weeks onwards I was bleeding, a bright red gush and then spotting brown and pink and red for about two weeks. Currently 15 weeks and alls well so far.

Stardust1204 · 04/01/2026 10:33

Wow I cannot be more thankful for all of your stories, honestly thank you.

❤️

Hi ladies, so after I posted the spotting stopped for about 9 days and last night (TMI sorry!!) I had a very upset tummy in the evening and this afternoon the exact same spotting came back, it’s not getting any worse and again it’s on and off throughout the afternoon. I just want to crawl into a hole and cry:(!
im 7 weeks today but I just have such PTSD of the EPU from my MMC that I’m thinking maybe I just wait this out and see what happens and rock up to my 12 week scan. But my husband is very much let’s just get you seen and see if there is an explanation but the thought of the EPU just makes me cry :(

Don't you have a midwife appointment at about 8-10 weeks? Perhaps you can call and ask to see someone if you are worried, but as the people above say, it does happen even with healthy pregnancies.

Regarding your lost of symptoms, I only had symptoms for a week or two then lost them, so I was really worried, but DD is now 6, so I wouldn't let that concern you either.

I guess the thing is noone can tell via the internet what's going on. I am with your husband, as don't think waiting another 5 weeks without knowing will help you feel better. Xx

APatternGrammar · 14/01/2026 20:39

Very heavy bleeding with both successful pregnancies. You’re not out of the game yet, but maybe stop poking yourself with tissue.

EmeraldJeanie · 14/01/2026 20:45

I hope all well.
I can't remember exact dates but I had early bleeding with ds 2 (now 16) it was polyps on my cervix. It stopped after a few weeks. All very stressful til knew what it was.
Definitely get checked out. I went to EPU and quick diagnosis.
I wish you every luck. Xx

Stardust1204 · 14/01/2026 20:50

So my midwives haven’t contacted me to book the booking in appointment yet , I have heard nothing despite registering 3 weeks ago!

thanks ladies - I think in my gut it’s to do with my cervix as this has happened with a chest infection and now a upset tummy… but yes no amount of googling will tell me. Hearing stories really do take me out of my head so I really appreciate all the replies ❤️

I am going to sleep on it and then see how it is tomorrow and then try get a refferal through my GP if I muster up the courage….. I think I’m just scared of them going we aren’t sure come back in 14 days and have an inconclusive scan like I had last pregnancy. I just really wanted my first scan this time to be positive and definitive xx

It's more than likely fine - this happened with me first time around. But don't ask us! Call the hospital.

I would not book a private scan as although they say they can detect heartbeats from 6 weeks, they can't always as too early so your mind will be spinning if you go for one and they don't find a heart beat. I went for private scans with mine at 7+4 ish.

the midwife may just tell you to wait, unless that advice is out of date but it's likely all fine ❤️

Loyaltotheoil · 14/01/2026 20:53

I’m rhesus negative and my husband is rhesus positive, I bled throughout my pregnancies and babies were fine! Midwives told me it was due to the babies having a different blood group or something like that! There’s so many reasons as to why you might be spotting that don’t mean anything alarming x

I am so so so sorry beyond sorry to hear of your story, I am sending you so much hope and love for this baby. I really mean that ❤️❤️❤️
im gonna see how it plays out tomorrow and then decide what I do, I know it sounds so silly but it’s my memories of EPU that are stopping me. Even typing that I realise how silly I am! Do you have to get a referral for EPU in your area? I do but I’m not a million miles away from a walk in EPU

I had spotting for a few days between 5 and 6 weeks with both pregnancies that resulted in my two DDs. I also feared the worst - the bleeding got quite heavy at times and I passed a few clots -
but both little beans hung on. It’s so hard as it is a wait and see scenario - wishing you all the best xx

Caffeinelover01 · 15/01/2026 08:25

Hi just an update from me to I have woke up today and had carbon and a little red I would say a teaspoon worth on my panty liner …. I will attach a picture and I sorry if it’s TMI but can anyone tell if there’s looked similar … my anxiety is sky high 😔
