I fell asleep with my bra on and I woke up feeling out of breath with my chest quite tight. Could this cause a miscarriage or other problem?

Hi all,

Apologies if this isn’t the right thread. I’ve just found out I’m pregnant! (About 4 weeks). Earlier, I fell asleep in my bra and woke up feeling like it was a struggle to breathe and my chest was super tight. I took my bra off and walked around and ended up feeling a bit better.

But since I’m newly pregnant (literally only found out this morning), I’ve been mildly panicking that this might cause something bad (like a miscarriage or complication). Is it usual to feel out of breath with a bra whilst pregnant and is it normal to feel anxious about miscarrying etc?

Sorry for sounding silly - just trying to keep myself sane!

Thanks for listening

Unless you normally get out of breath and chest pain wearing your bra, then that was nothing to do with wearing your bra to sleep. I think as you’ve associated it with wearing your bra the chances are higher that you have woken up with it on and have had some sort of panic attack as a result. That isn’t going to cause a miscarriage. If you had tummy pains I would understand your worry, but being breathless isn’t going to cause a miscarriage otherwise pregnant women would stay horizontal for the entire pregnancy and not move!

No, it’s isn’t normal to feel like his way. You need to speak to your GP/midwife otherwise you could end up spiralling, which won’t be good for either of you.

Congratulations.

No, it wouldn't.

No, it wouldn't. But it's worth making a GP appointment if you're having episodes of breathlessness so they can check things like your iron level if needed.
