Hi, i am 21 weeks pregnant and i want to start doing perineal massage but i have had thrush since 3 weeks pregnant and i had it on and off for a year before getting pregnant. Is it safe to do the massage or not? Im going to ask my midwife but i don’t see her for another week or so, thank for any advice.

I think you’re a bit early to be starting it regardless of the thrush at the moment OP.

Personally I tried it in my first pregnancy, found it really unpleasant and uncomfortable, didn’t do it in either and had only the tiniest graze in my first birth, nothing second time.
So just wanted to say, don’t feel like you HAVE to do it at all, especially if you’re dealing with other issues like thrush.

Op, could your thrush possibly be Lichen Sclerosis.

Perineal massage should not be performed before 34 weeks or if you have thrush or any other infection.

I would give it time to settle down as it isn't recommended to do it yet for at least a couple of months.

Yes that what my midwife said start massage at 34 - 36 weeks not so early. Not sure I'd be doing it with thrush though.
