Coping with unsupportive comments

Hi all,

I have very recently discovered that I’m pregnant with baby number 4. It was a shock but we are very happy our family is growing.

We’ve avoided telling my sis in law due to her previous reactions. After number 2, she was commenting a lot that’s you done now, no more babies for you. She was always making wee comments here and there during the pregnancy with number 3, she was very pushy with these types of comments and even told her brother to have a vasectomy. I actually feel dread about telling her because I just know she’s going to be stroppy again and make more unhelpful comments.

For context, I’ve been with hubby for 15yr, we own our home and have enough space. Already have a 7seat car etc. money is ok, we’re definitely not loaded but have enough, no debt and live within our means. We both work and do not receive any benefits or anything.. so really, there is no justification for her reaction. How do I not let her get to me and bring me down?

thanks

I felt like this about baby number 3. It was so strange to feel awkward about my own baby. Luckily people fck off with their weird opinions once a cute baby has arrived. You can’t slag off a baby once it’s been born as easily. Bit like you can’t talk shit about someone when they’re dead, it’s sort of frowned on

I’m sorry you experienced similar, it’s hard to face the judgement you seem to get after 2kiddos :(

Usually it’s jealousy dressed up as faux concern. Just smile and say nothing to morons who can’t cope as they’re not happy on their own lives. Don’t give them any satisfaction.

100% sounds like jealousy. Just say 'we haven't ruled out another one after this!' with a massive smile, that usually shuts people up.

Just don’t tell her and watch her squirm as your bump gets bigger and bigger 😂. When she does ask why you didn’t tell her just say cause you’re never happy for us 😂
