Hi all,

hope you’re all well.

im 35 weeks pregnant today, 39 YO, BMI not the best but have gained no weight other than the baby and water in the pregnancy. Have a good diet, historical weight gain from unknown untreated thyroid issues and years of antipsychotics when I was mentally unwell.

I was admitted to antenatal last night due to reduced movement, had some monitoring which came back fine and had a scan this morning.

scan shows that babies AC has gone from 32nd centile to 85th in two ish weeks, and ive gone from 6cm of fluid to nearly 11cm at the deepest pool in the same time frame. They’ve said that’s why I might not be feeling her as much due to the fluid.

baby has always been tracking along the 32nd centile on all growth scans, until today.
I passed my GD test weeks ago and levels weren’t even borderline.

My wife had pretty much uncontrollable diabetes with our son and used high units of insulin in the latter weeks. Having a c section at 38 weeks. She was also heavily symptomatic and sugars read high on almost every finger prick test we did.

after coming home today I had a white bread sandwich and some chocolate (little experiment) and did a finger prick test an hour later- reading was fine.

I know that doesn’t necessarily mean I don’t have GD, but what if I don’t?! What could cause the massive AC increase and fluid increase if it isn’t?

stomach and bladder issues ruled out during scan today. I have read about neurological issues being a possibility? Or spinabifida?

not sure how that’s linked and we know what google is like.

Can anyone shed some light please? I’m very worried something is wrong.

many thanks in advance. 🩷

Scans have a margin of error, and tendency to over estimate baby weight later in pregnancy.
try not to google and panic, most likely all will be fine. Take it week by week.

Hey there. Sorry you are going through a stressful time. My BMI was 33 at booking with my son. My blood glucose tolerance test was fine. Then at around 35 weeks my baby's AC went up to 90. They repeated the BGTT and although it was still in range it had gone up. So it wasn't out of range but I ended up having an induction at 37 weeks. But it just goes to show with measurements on scans - baby came out small the AC was overestimated as the previous poster said. Try not to worry, have they given you any further advice or plan going forward? Xx
