XONVEA - WHEN WILL IT WORK

Hi

Im now 8 weeks pregnant today and so miserable. I had HG with my 2 previous pregnancies and know this is headed that way. I succumbed and asked for Xonvea 4 days ago but I’m still not feeling any better. I’m still incredibly nauseous and still vomiting. I couldn’t drink or eat anything but now managing some diluted juice but throwing it all up within 30 minutes. I’ve just checked and seen I’ve lost 10lbs in 5 days.

Im scared to take other medication as taking Xonvea itself was a big deal as I’m scared of harming baby. I didn’t take meds for other 2 kids even though they were by far worse.

When will this disgusting nausea stop. When will I be able to actually eat and want to eat. Everything seems disgusting to me.

Please help

Hey I took xonvea throughout my whole pregnancy, it's completely safe and baby was fine! How many tablets are you taking? You might need to up the dose

TreeXmasTree · 13/12/2025 16:58

Hi @Marmite1992 been taking 1 in the morning and 2 at night since Tuesday. Just Called 999 and waiting for an ambulance because I can’t take this anymore

Hi OP, this was me a few days after taking xonvea expecting it to work instantly

Took about 7-8 days to feel the effects and start feeling better

Xonvea is safe to take and won’t harm your baby

If you really need to some woman do have to take 2 meds at the same time. Sorry you’re struggling it’s awful isn’t it :(

Omg @Rocketship003 my hg has completely stopped after 10 days of meds which included from Prochlorperazine prescribed after 1st hospital admission (taken along with Xonvea) and then 1 dose of Ondensatron after 2nd admission within those 10 days and I’m worried now because why have symptoms suddenly stopped?!

There are no risks to baby with Xonvea, it’s well researched and has been licensed for years outside of the NHS. It’s the only drug licensed for use for nausea in pregnancy in the UK. It’s an absolute wonder drug, I couldn’t have continued my pregnancy without it.

are you taking 20mg at bed time? Then if it’s not curbing the nausea a further 10mg in the morning and again if that isn’t curbing it, a further 10mg mid afternoon?

Just read your update. Your symptoms have stopped because you are now effectively medicating yourself when you weren’t before.

Are you feeling anxious? Perhaps reach out to your MW for support.

It’s so tough OP, sending lots of solidarity. I’m now at 12 weeks taking cyclizine and prochlorperazine as it’s hard to get Xonvea in my area. It’s totally miserable. There is lots of experience with these medications now and evidence they are safe to take in pregnancy, definitely talk to your midwife if worried.
