i have been waiting for my dental appointment for 6-7weeks for a broken filling, minor discomfort and sensitive tooth. after seeing the dentist they have said removal and refill with white.

silly me googled silver filling and NHS advisory is not to remove filling as it release unsafe amount of mercury.

anyone have anything similar or dental professionals happy to offer advice? Very worried mama to be as online said can be danger to baby amount mercury release during drilling.
thanks you

Presumably the dentist knows you’re pregnant?

Yes, he said not to do X-rays as pregnant but advised the above regarding the filling

You need to find a dentist who follows the protocol of IAOMT (International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology) SMART – (Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique). Look up the British Society for Mercury Free Dentistry. I had all my mercury fillings removed many years ago, and they used special equipment to make sure I didn't inhale the vapours, and I had a detox afterwards. Hopefully they can advise on safety in pregnancy.

Hey I'm a dentist, I wouldn't worry too much about having the filling removed. A very small amount of Mercury vapour is released but it's actually more dangerous to the dentist as we inhale it all the time (and I had to work and do this whilst pregnant)!
Replacing with a white filling is best. I've never heard of the above poster safe mercury removal technique. It has to be drilled out and suction will be on, there's no other way to remove a filling. And not sure how you detox after a filling either!!
