1:3 for Edwards/Patau’s result

At 13 weeks pregnant, initial screening has shown my baby has a 1:3 chance of Edwards/Patau’s syndrome. I now have a 5 day wait for the results of my NIPT testing but just wanted to hear if anyone else has had a similar result and what the outcome was? I am absolutely terrified and devastated, just desperately hoping for a positive outcome

Sorry to hear this. What was your nt (neck fluid) reading at your scan? We had a loss to patau at 13 weeks pregnant earlier this year. I read many successful stories though for others x

ChirpyStork · 09/12/2025 20:44

So sorry to hear of your loss, that’s devastating. The NT was 1.3mm which they said was normal and everything else on the scan was normal. I am hoping for the best but with odds like that it’s impossible not to think the worst

They use the high nt as one of the main factors. I done a lot of research and most nt under 4.5mm were fine. Good luck but I think you will be ok! X

What were your HCG and ppa results op? Sorry you're going through this, I had 1 in 18 chance and was out of my mind with worry. I joined on another thread where someone had a 1/3 chance and she had a positive outcome. The odds are still in your favour

Op I’m sorry to hear you are going through this . I recommend talking to Arc … they are very supportive and informative .

Shoemadlady · 09/12/2025 23:23

This is so stressful for you I’m so sorry. I had a 1:6 chance and it came back clear but I will never forget feeling how you’re feeling now. Hope the team at the hospital are supporting you x
you will get through it, whatever the outcome may be and even if you don’t think you will at the moment x

I can remember the wait avd how awful it was. Try and spend some time with your DP/DH away from the house and remember that 1 in 3 is still a 66% chance that everything will be fine Flowers

ChirpyStork · 10/12/2025 04:12

PAPP was 0.162 which I believe is low

I can’t see a note of the hcg level

PAPP-A: 0.162
HCG: 0.162 MoM
age: 36
normal BMI

It was explained to me the ideal for each is 1. My results were thrown because my hcg was higher and Papp was low. Your NT is smaller than mine was.

It's a terrible wait and I'm sorry you're in this limbo. I know it's silly but I downloaded a game on my phone and when I found myself worrying I'd start playing it (bubble pop) to try distract myself. Try do some nice things for yourself during the wait. Like someone else said, you have 66% chance of everything being ok 🤞🏻

Chica1990 · 16/12/2025 00:06

How are you doing @ChirpyStork?

Geriatrixia · 16/12/2025 17:44

I was given a 1 in 2 chance of Edward’s/Patau’s due to low PAPP-A and maternal age. NT was within normal range, NIPT came back 1 in 10,000 and several
very, very thorough fetal medicine scans
convinced us he’s absolutely fine, so we felt
no need to move onto the amnio. 36 weeks today!

I had low blood work too. But slightly different to you I started bleeding the day before my 12 week scan. Everything came back ok on my scan. Had the screening and I came back as HR for all three syndromes.

I opted for a CVS but they couldn’t do it because of my bowel being in the way. Opted for NIPT after two weeks and vowel still hadn’t moved, the NIPT came back as completely normal. Consultant still wanted to do CVS, unfortunately ended up losing him at 16 weeks 💔 he was very unwell, nothing specifically genetic. I was 36 at the time of my loss.

I’m now 37 and 23 weeks pregnant and all going well. So if it is bad news it’s not the end of the road. Really hope it’s positive news for you OP 🤞🏼🤞🏼

There is a good website called Antenatal Choices and Results, they are very helpful and supportive https://www.arc-uk.org/

ChirpyStork · 16/12/2025 20:29

Update: NIPT results came back absolutely fine today, all good which is a massive relief and it feels like a huge weight has been lifted. Just in case anyone else is going through the same thing, just wanted to offer reassurance that even with a chance of 1 in 3 there is still hope. It won’t stop you worrying but perhaps it will give you moments of hope like other women gave to me during the wait for results

So pleased for you @ChirpyStork! It's an agonising wait but you made it through! Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy
