should have read this before I posted a new conversation about the same thing I'm 22 weeks and having a horrible cramp on my left calf throughout the night... stretching I guess! I've tried reading up on it, but no great suggestions... I was hoping someone on MN would have a lovely miracle cure

me too star6 am just sitting waiting for someone to come along and cure all!

sorry you're having them too

star6 one of the girls on my antenatal thread has suggested below the knee amputation to solve my cramp/swollen feet issues

another has pointed me in direction of this page:

just added this onto the other thread

tonic water- the quinnine in it really helps (my MW let me in on this and it worked for me)

Only thing which helped me was the gaviscon I had to take for heartburn - think it was the potassium

Takenoprisoners · 10/06/2008 14:50

I second the tonic water. Or bitter lemon - yes, it is the quinine which does the trick.

It does work - had agonising cramps for first pregnancy, despite all the usual advice about upping magnesium and exercises etc. This 2nd pregnancy looked like it was going the same way until I tried tonic water. Have one every evening. If I forget, the cramps come back, so it definitely works for me.

Ice and a slice optional. A gin-and-tonic without the gin.

Hope it works for you, too
