8 week scan handhold

From LMP I should be bang on 8 weeks today. I booked a scan spontaneously last night for this afternoon 2:15pm.

I've had two previous MMC

  1. 8+5 weeks (found at private 12 week scan)
  2. 7+5 weeks (found at private 10 week scan)

Due to the MMCs I didn’t see any point getting a scan so early, but I’m desperate to know what’s going on in there! I’ve had such different/lesser symptoms than my previous pregnancies (have also had one successful, so this is my fourth pregnancy) so I don’t know what to think and keep thinking maybe blighted ovum.

I’d rather know sooner than later if there is something wrong, though I know something could go wrong after the scan of course.

Just looking for a handhold really, I’ve not been able to sleep at all, and my partner can’t go with me as he will be at work. X

All the best OP.

Having had various MC in the past I completely understand your anxiety.

I am making the assumption this isn't a hospital based scan? I would be wary.

Is there any way you can self refer to your EPU. I was able to, after only one miscarriage. If there had been problems, I would already have been in the system.

I do realise I was very lucky that my area allowed self- referral.

Good luck, OP.

Good luck OP!

Good luck OP, I understand the worry. Symptoms wise, I’ve learnt on here that every pregnancy is different, even for the same person. I hope today gives you the reassurance you deserve. Seconding @Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies in saying your EPAU might offer you these scans instead of having to go private, might be worth giving them a call. After 2mcs I’ve been scanned 4 times this pregnancy by epau and I’m only 11 weeks. Their support has helped a great deal. Wishing you all the best.

Thanks everyone!!

@aLogLady @Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies
where I live you are not able to self refer sadly! I have my booking appointment with the midwife next week, so (all being well) I will be able to speak to them next week and they may refer me. My GP will only refer if you have symptoms like pain/blood.

I’d definitely love to have scans with EPAU rather than going private if it’s an option! I’ll update with what they say

With a history of miscarriage EPU really should see you. They usually give progesterone early on, after my miscarriage in my next pregnancy I was prescribed progesterone by EPU at 6 weeks.

Successful scan! Can’t believe it! Dates were perfect, bang on 8 weeks. I know things can still go wrong but it was lovely to have reassurance for a night.
