Scan confusion

Hi,
myself and my partner found out we were pregnant again a couple of weeks ago. However, due to having an eating disorder my periods stopped back at the end of May meaning we had absolutely no idea how far along I was.

due to a previous miscarriage in November last year (2024), we booked an early reassurance scan and to find out how far along I was. We attended the scan and all was great. Measuring 6+1 with a pregnancy visible with a cardiac flicker which was great news.

i then had an early NHS scan a few days later so they could also see. When I had arrived they took my urine for a pregnancy test which was fine but then I had mentioned that I now don’t have a full bladder like you’ve asked. Which they said was fine, they then on abdominal could see a pregnancy. But wanted to do a TV when they did it they saw a pregnancy and a yolk sack with fetal pole but no cardiac activity? And was measuring completely differently And said it’s just too early to see anything yet and would not have a heartbeat at this stage. However, by the time we were scanned my bladder had slightly filled up and I know that this can sometimes impact the visibility. The sonographer also did not attempt to do an in depth scan. Due to my retroverted uterus sometimes the Tv scans do need to be inserted a bit deeper than was it has been.

I disclosed the private scan and they said they are unable to take this into account on their side which is fair enough. But the private scan had been so much clearer, myself and my partner could see everything and all was explained in great detail.

they said the scan had been inconclusive and due to my trauma of the previous miscarriage I broke down. But they had then been talking like it’s the worse case scenario. But then on the other hand saying it could be too early ect ect. So my confused self got even more upset.
we are due to be rescanned on Tuesday and had to be signed off sick for the week from work as I’m a huge emotional wreck over it all.
im absolutely terrified to be rescanned due to the previous misscarriage and as we are being scanned in the same EPAU and in the same rooms as we were when the previous misscarriage has been happening.

I’ve heard a lot of stories similar to mine regarding the private VS NHS scans showing one thing and the other a completely different story. Where they have ended positively.

has anyone else’s had a positive outcome?
im really anxious and quite scared over the whole situation. I feel like there is also an element of mistrust especially in this EPAU.

thank you!

It may just be the scanning equipment or the operator, it does sound like it's pretty early so may not be very clear yet. Try to relax until Tuesday, good luck.
