Weight gain in first trimester

I'm overweight. Enough to be considered obese according to my bmi. In September I started to exercise, swimming once a week, a session with a PT once a week and generally trying to walk/cycle rather than drive. My aim was to be healthier generally and hopefully lose weight. But I still had a really bad diet, loads of bread, biscuits, ice cream etc.

In October I fell pregnant and instantly went off most foods I'd previously been overindulging in. The idea of anything with sugar in makes me feel sick, as does large portions and eating before 11am or after 5pm. Pretty much overnight I went from regularly eating 4 carb loaded meals plus sugary snacks a day to instead wanting small amounts of veg sticks and hummus, crackers, scrambled eggs, and things like greek yogurt and fruit. I did randomly crave something meaty the other day so had a burger late around 6pm but it didn't stay down long.

So, I've been moving my body (not loads, but more than I was which was nothing), have reduced my portions and number of meals, and am eating way healthier than it was. How the heck have I gained like 6lbs in 8 weeks?! I've been advised due to my weight that I should aim for little to no weight gain...whilst at the same time not actively trying to lose weight as that's bad in pregnancy....but at this point idk what else I can do to avoid it!

Edited to say I really don't think it's muscle gain. Am not working out that hard!.

I had a hell of a lot of bloating in early pregnancy. It could be water retention etc because it does sound like your calorie intake is down. You can't out exercise a bad diet, so the weightloss will come from the changes there, but if you're eating significantly less it will happen.

As PP said. I had such bad bloating in the first trimester.
I looked as though i was 6 months pregnant because of how bad my bloating was!
Theres so much water retention, i put so much weight on during pregnancy and i had such bad water retention throughout pregnancy everything had swollen up!! I had fat feet, ankles, legs, arms, face😅
I am classed as obese due to my BMI, but as soon as i had my baby all my weight and swelling and water retention had gone down.
I now have a mum tum admittedly but ive lost some weight and you can see everything has gone down significantly. Im 2 weeks PP and you wouldnt have thought i was heavily pregnant 2 weeks ago because everything has gone down😂 i havent jumped on the scale but i look better now than i did pre pregnancy!

Dont worry too much about your weight gain! Just enjoy your pregnancy and congratulations x

I’ve gained 18lb in 8 weeks. I had a gastric sleeve 2 years ago as well so it’s shocking and distressing 😩

Thanks for the responses. I just worry when I've been really told I shouldn't be gaining anything but it's piling on in spite of my diet changing beyond recognition. Thought bloating was usually gas related which then wouldn't weigh much although you'd look bigger!!
