I am 14 weeks and have got what feels like a headcold - blocked nose, sore head, slightly sore throat. Appetite fine and no temperature but it’s my first pregnancy and first time being ill during it and it’s so easy to worry! Does anyone have any encouragement? How bad would illness have to be to affect the baby? x

A cold is very unlikely to cause you or the baby any problems at all. You don’t want a fever in pregnancy and that’s probably the main risk from a cold, so if you do start to get a temp I’d probably take some paracetamol even if you normally might not.

Have you had your flu jab? I’d get that, as flu is more dangerous in pregnancy.

Try not to worry too much, stress is worse for the baby than a common cold. I had Norovirus when I was 16weeks pregnant and was projectile vomiting and stuck on the toilet for 10 hours straight 😩 I ended up pulling the muscles in my back, stomach & groin from heaving so much. The doctor wasn’t the slightest bit worried about it, she was more worried about dehydration. Three weeks later I had a stinking cold. The doctors remedy… camomile tea with honey. And a paracetamol if needed.
My sympathies go to you because being pregnant and sick sucks big time, but you are strong and will get through it just fine 💕
