I am in the latent stage and have been for a week. I’m 2cm dilated, bishops score of 9, contractions are 3 every 10 but not taking my breath away, I’ve lost my mucus plug…. I’m a first time mum… and not sure how much longer I can take this! I’m exhausted - any advice?

Are you at home or in the hospital?

Flowers86557 · 30/11/2025 18:27

At home

Hmm I think once it gets going it will be very quick. When where you last assessed for BS and dilation measurements?

Flowers86557 · 30/11/2025 19:37

Thursday night was my last check.

Maybe get checked again? It has been 3 days since last check. It does sound exhausting, are you managing to get any sleep?

Ask for a reassessment. If you were last assessed on Thursday things may have changed quite a bit. If things haven’t changed then there are still options - eg admission for pain relief/ think about having augmentation/ just occasionally women ask for a section after a long latent phase. Not everyone gets to the magical 4 in 10 contractions before they push a baby out so it’s worth asking for a review.

SwirlyShirly · 30/11/2025 19:49

how are your babies movements?

Whereismyfleeceblanket · 30/11/2025 19:50

Get that vacuum out. Got me going more than a few times.

Absolutely ask to be checked out again!!

Legthing · 30/11/2025 20:33

It's probably a good idea to go back and ask, tbh. I think they are glad to be asked.

Also they don't want you totally worn out for the finish line I reckon.

Bless you that sounds so hard! Sometimes a long latent phase can be because baby’s not quite in the right position for labour. You could try some of the stretches and exercises on the spinning babies website (https://www.spinningbabies.com/pregnancy-birth/daily-activities/) and some people swear by the miles circuit for getting baby in the right position and getting things moving.

Good luck!

I really hope you are ok
