When did you buy baby clothes?

Entering third trimester and we’ve already been given a lot of newborn clothes and 0-3 months. I would love to buy some for myself because I love baby grow shopping when I’ve gone for other people BUT is there any point until we get a better idea of his size? He could be a 9 pounder! I also know I’ll be gifted a lot of baby clothes at Christmas but nevertheless I already feel ‘bad’ because I haven’t picked anything out myself!

Will we actually know before birth what weight to expect him at? The midwife mentioned measuring my bump sometime in upcoming appointments… or could I pay for a private scan to tell us?

Obviously don’t care about what size he is as long as he’s healthy but I’m starting to think of having a hospital bag soon, in case he’s a few weeks early etc etc and I’m worried I won’t have anything that fits him in hospital. I guess the solution would be to pack one newborn and one 0-3 months!

He was 30th percentile at 20 week scan but not sure if that means he’ll be 30th percentile throughout the entire pregnancy?? He could have a growth spurt in the last tri?

I think you're overthinking a little. Just pack a couple of newborn onesies and a couple in 0-3 months. You don't need lots of baby clothes for the hospital stay.

Baby clothes shopping is the best though! Definitely choose some things yourself. Congrats on your pregnancy! I hope it all goes smoothly.

Just pack a few newborn and a few 0-3 and it'll cover you either way.

Mine jumped from 30th percentile at 20 weeks to 97th percentile at 28 weeks..... And I got a scan for 32 weeks coming up so it might go back down again. Scan regarding are wrong about weight for lots of people apparently. It's just an estimate I wouldn't go by that. As others have said just pack a couple of both sizes (newborn and 0-3 month)

My older two DC were both over 9lb and both fit in newborn. My twins were born between 6-7lb and ended up in tiny baby! I would just take newborn in the bag, but maybe keep some 0-3 in the car as a backup.

Shape of baby matters as much as weight.

With my first I bought Asdas first size which is 6-9lb and these were great. She was 6lb13 at 38+6. I think these would be suitable for most newborns.

I had my son at 37+1, I knew I was going to be induced early and he was predicted to be 5lb12-6lb2 based on growth scans so I picked up a pack of baby grows and vests (Sainsbury's newborn 6-7.5lb) on my way to the hospital for induction. He was surprisingly 6lb12 so very similar to my daughter only he was much smaller. The clothes from my daughter swamped him and we even had to drop down to size 0 nappies which are 2-5lb. He's now 12 weeks and still wearing the newborn vests we bought even though he's 12lb now! He's mostly in Asda first size, Sainsbury's up to 1month. My daughter moved into 0-3 month clothes at 8 weeks but these are still huge on my son even though he's now heavier than she was at this age
