I am 39 weeks and noticed some fresh blood in my knickers today (but not from the obvious place !). I mananged to have a look with a mirror and I seem to have three or four dark red blood blister spot things on the outside of my labia . One of them is bleeding. Does this sound ok ? I assume it is the pressure and they are just vessels. I didn't get them with my first DS and so am a little bit concerned.
Thanks for your help.

no idea chick as im pregnant for first time. Best way is to call your midwife xxx

fiodyl · 09/06/2008 14:22

I never had it but Id assume that they are some kind of varicose vein type thing which are very common in pregnancy but if you are concerned then check with your midwife

I haven't had this but I have definitely read on here that people have, so I'm bumping for you!

It sounds very painful

it's amazing what strange things can happen to your body when you're pregnant. it does sound like some varicose vein thing, are they sore? mention it to midwife at next visit.

PixelHerder · 09/06/2008 14:26

I had a blood blister there towards the end of pregnancy - it had mysteriously disappeared after the birth though (when I could bear to look!). I imagine it's something to do with the varicose vein effect from the extra pressure, as fiodyl has said.

Nobody ever commented on it during pre-birth examinations, so I assume it was nothing to worry about!

Thanks everyone. Just googled them and apparently they are a type of varicose vein - just a tiny swollen blood vessel. They are supposedly quite common and disappear (let's hope so !!!) when the baby is born

Lolski - it is probably a vulval varicosity which is bleeding or an external pile which is bleeding - caused by the weight of the baby on your nether regions. But best get it checked out just in case. Just raise it with the midwife when you next see her.
