Nearly fainted

Today I went to the dentist one to see an hygienist was in there for about 20 minutes then next was to get a root canal.

During the roof canal I started feeling very hot and faint. Nurse had to give me a sugary drink and then I was ok.

I'm wondering why this happened? Maybe laying flat for too long? I don't think I was sitting flat for long. Maybe 15 minutes? 20 minutes prior with the hygienist.

Or low BP? I'm around 27 weeks pregnant.

I'm sure baby is all ok but it just made me very anxious!

I found since around 24 weeks I can't lie flat for much more than a minute or so. When the midwife tried to measure my bump at my 24 week appointment I got lightheaded and nauseous very quickly. Its probably that?

It might be hypotension. I was hypotensive during pregnancy, and often felt like I was going to faint. Resolved afterwards.

I don’t think it’s related to pregnancy. the same thing happens to me during long dental procedures.

After about 20 weeks when you're lying flat the chance of the increasingly large uterus compressing the chunky veins returning blood from your bottom half to the heart increases. This means your blood pressure drops (and can also mean that placental perfusion drops). That's why you're not really supposed to fly flat after about 20 wks gestation. The dentists should know this.

Other possibility of course is dental related - if they'd injected local with adrenaline and you absorb a bit more adrenaline than usual into the blood stream that can make you feel pretty weird.

Thank you guys for all your replies.

I spoke to triage in the end and they said it was my body warning me I needed to get up so it wouldn't of done any harm to the baby.

I am feeling movement which they said is reassuring. It's mainly if women fall asleep for hours in bed where they don't get them warning signs and bad things happen.

I'm going to try and relax now but I do have my midwife apt tomorrow morning x
