High blood pressure at 33+3

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone else has had high blood pressure at 33 weeks.

I have a midwife appointment next week 3 weeks after the last and was waiting to ask some questions about symptoms at my appointment however I've just taken my blood pressure and it's sitting at between 146/95 and 154/96.

Is this cause for immediate concern?

I've had alot of swelling and off in my hands over the past couple of weeks and now have constant pins and needles in my left hand. On its own this seemed like carpel tunnel from normal pregnancy swelling but coupled with the high blood pressure I dont know how concerned to be.

I am thinking to probably get checked out tommorow just to be sure but I also don't want to overreact.

Any experience of this please?

I had high BP and was put on medication before I became pregnant. For this reason they have closely monitored me for pre - eclampsia. They always ask me about any swelling, pins and needles, headaches, blurred vision etc at every appointment. If I were you I’d ring triage and see what they say.

i'd phone triage tonight. Those BPs are high enough that they need to at least think about pre-eclampsia and if they stay up advise starting treatment.

It was found I had high BP at about 4 months pregnant and they took it very seriously. I was in triage for hours and they wanted to keep me over night. I've been on Labetalol since then though and it's very manageable.

If you walked into triage with that BP they'd be concerned, definitely give them a call.

I've had high BP on and off all the way through this pregnancy (now 39 weeks). Has always been below 150/100 so I've never been medicated but was told if it went above that they would medicated. I would definitely go to triage with your BP readings.

How are you now, OP? Did you phone MWs?
