For me:

I didn’t realise that the nausea would be 24/7. I thought it would be early on in the pregnancy only and every now and then, not constantly.

The diarrhoea

The constipation

The headaches

My appetite has totally changed and my body reacts to different foods so differently now. I get an upset tummy when eating a lot of foods.

The cramps

What surprised you?

How utterly terrible I felt all the time - like I knew “morning sickness” was a thing but I was so unprepared for the reality of 24/7 nausea and fatigue, and hardly eating anything healthy for 3
months!

Cramps here too - didn’t realise mild cramping was a fairly normal early pregnancy symptom

How horribly, freakishly tired I was 😭.

Tryingtosurvive26 · 20/11/2025 19:32

Oh I forgot to add… insomnia! Can’t sleep until around 2am which is very unusual for me lol.

The way my tastes and diet would completely change! I envisioned eating salmon, steak, organic veg throughout my pregnancy but very quickly adapted to a diet of crisps, ginger biscuits and burgers

The weight gain 😮

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 20/11/2025 19:55

The exhaustion.

Firstsuggestions · 20/11/2025 19:57

First time the extreme nausea, total exhaustion and weight loss. Second time, how fine I was. The pregnancies were chalk and cheese. Although the third trimester of the second time round was not fun!

Allsigns · 20/11/2025 20:01

First time - how I could be completely oblivious to the fact it was happening until it was almost over

Second time - how blooming long it is till the 12 week scan and feeling baby move and all the exciting stuff when you find out early 🤣

Third time - how oblivious children can be to the fact that mummy's diet has basically changed overnight. They used to make regular jokes about how much coffee DH and I drink. Have cut it out, as well as loads of other stuff I regularly eat, and noone has noticed a thing! They seemingly haven't noticed me constantly having to step outside to breathe when I feel sick either. It's astounding.

That's just preparing you for motherhood.
I slept awful in pregnancy... but it still 100% better than the last almost 2 years with my toddler 😂

BudgetBuster · 20/11/2025 21:18

How long it is.
It's by far the longest trimester, even though when you find out you are pregnant you are already 1/3 way through it. It's just so so long.

Tryingtosurvive26 · 20/11/2025 21:18

I went off coffee at 6 weeks pregnant… I was a 3 a day girl before. Can’t stand it now, had to suffer through the caffeine withdrawal headaches and now I just don’t have any interest. I tried so many times to cut down before from 3 a day and was never able to.

Like others... the constant nausea. Just feeling a bit grim all the time !

SwirlyShirly · 20/11/2025 21:54

The HG was a bit of a shitter from week 5 onwards. Otherwise the fatigue and how quickly I showed!
