Hi all,

ii am currrently sat in my Epau’s emergency department. I’m 5 weeks and roughly 3 days pregnant, tonight after orgasming without penetration (maybe tmi sorry?) I’ve started to bleed and cramp a bit, it’s pinky maybe red blood? With my previous losses (4) I’ve always had dark brown, but I’m terrified I’m about to go down that road again, I know I’m in the right place to get checked over and no one here are medical professionals, but I’m wonder if any of you experienced anything similar and went on to be okay? :/

This can be due to cervical ectropion which is harmless to baby. It happened me at 11w and 18w, once was after intercourse. It was explained to me as hormonal changes in the cervix. Definitely right to get checked out. Hope it's something very minor for you.

BudgetBuster · 20/11/2025 23:14

I used to bleed after intercourse and even though I was got checked and it was fine, just an irritated cervix, poor DH gets no action now whilst I'm pregnant 😂 After 4 losses i can't take the sight of blood even if its just from too much rumpy pumpy.

Hope you have the same outcome. Bleeding after intercourse is actually quite common.

I’m glad you were getting the care you needed, and I hope it was a reassuring scan. There are lots of reasons for bleeding and as PPs have said, the cervix is def under suspicion for “mechanical bleeding”. I hope that’s all it is. If it’s any comfort, I’ve had fresh red bleeding, multiple days of brown spotting and some almost black bleeding in this pregnancy so far but saw the wee bairn wiggle yesterday despite all this. Best of luck

Their scan didn’t pick up anything bar my womb being thick but she did say that at just over 5 weeks they weren’t expecting to see anything as I’m on the cusp on whether it would be visible or not :/

they did mention that I have a uti and there’s a small potential that could be causing the pain and bleeding, they’ve ran my bloods and I have to go for a repeat Saturday, she said if they’re going up then they’re happy it isn’t another loss right now, if they stall they’ll look regarding etopic and if they’ve lowered then the obvious, so I don’t really have any answers and in limbo at the moment.

the bleeding has stalled to a very minute bit of pink with the occasional wipe, but it’s so hard not to fear I’m going through another loss. I can’t help but feel after 4 prior, that it’s almost stupid for me to assume this would end any other way :/ but part of me is trying so hard to be positive but Saturday feels like a lifetime away (even though it’s literally tomorrow) x

The way I’ve comforted myself is that when they saw my scans after bleeding, there was no sign of an active miscarriage or even active bleeding, so the blood itself was something not directly related to the pregnancy. (Which sounds like it’s your situation? The cervix stats to change shape for a mc too, so they’ll have checked that.) That’s really good that they’re checking for ectopic, I had one and caught it early so had all the options for treatment. But it absolutely doesn’t have to be ectopic, I’m just glad they’re ruling it out. And since you’re not entirely sure on ovulation date, and since implantation adds further variables, and you only being roughly 5+3, there’s every possibility that on a further scan you’ll see what you’re hoping to see.

good luck with your bloods today :) oh and god sorry you have a uti, I absolutely hate them! I hope it clears up swiftly.

So sorry your going through this, it is so stressful.

I had a MMC at 11 weeks this year and it started with brown discharge which was constantly dismissed by EPU. I have got another son who is two and never had that before. When I got pregnant again I started to get pink discharge when I wiped after the toilet. I thought that was it.

I called EPU and after a few calls they finally asked me to come in. The pink was happening for a few weeks so I was seen around 9 weeks. Scan looked fine so they prescribed me progesterone until I was 16 weeks. You can now get this after one loss or more not 3 like they did before. Maybe ask if this could be possible?

Hope it all goes well x

I’m sorry to hear about your mmc, I had one back in February that required a D&C, in regards to progesterone, I’ve been on it since my positive test along with lose dose asprin (4 back to back losses and under the care of the recurrent miscarriage team)

unfortunately I think it isn’t good news for me, while I don’t have my bloods repeat until later this evening, this morning the bleeding has picked up slightly so I’m pretty confident I’m experiencing another loss.

I don’t feel like I can comfort myself much if I’m honest, with my mmc at the start of the year at 5w4d we managed to see both sacs and a faint heart beat, the scan on Thursday showing nothing at all, not even a gestational sac doesn’t fill me with hope :/ I know there’s a small chance i could be earlier than expected but I don’t know :/

during the scan she didn’t rule out a miscarriage nor did she confirm one, she just said it’s a pregnancy of unknown location, I’m trying to have a tiny bit of hope that it’ll be okay, but this morning my bleeding has picked back up (not period like or that heavy but enough viable when I wipe and after using my progesterone) and a test with fmu is a little lighter than yesterday, so I think I need to accept there’s a strong chance of my hcg coming back lower tonight, it’s frustrating that they aren’t testing me until 7pm because I just feel like I’m sat in limbo, I just want to know either way so I can process things you know? After the previous losses I truly thought i couldn’t be here a 5th time but maybe it just isn’t meant to be yet. Thank you for your replies 🖤

I thought I’d post a small update following my bloods this evening as I always look for updates on threads I see,

earlier today I was all but convinced this pregnancy was over, began crying and grieving in some aspect, I still attended by appointment for a 48 hour follow up with my hcg bloods, after what felt like an eternity of waiting I got called in by the doctor, I started sobbing the second I sat down as I thought he’d confirm it, well to my utter shock I was met with “your hcg is where we’d like to see it and things are progressing normally numbers wise” to say I was shocked was a understatement 😭 he mentioned I’d risen by 80% compared to the first lot of bloods. The bleeding he’s put down to just one of those things and potential irritation from cyclogest, but right now he’s not concerned and has given me a follow up scan on Monday morning. So here’s hoping with everything Monday brings even more good news 😭 but I’m going to enjoy the next 24 hours of feeling like I can finally breathe because I have been a wreck since Thursday thinking the worse was happening again 😭🫶🏻

Unfortunately after a few scans over the last few days, it’s been confirmed as an ectopic pregnancy and I’m due to have surgery tomorrow morning :/

Oh I’m really sorry to read this. I’ve been through the same. It’s at least a positive that they’ve caught it early enough and that you’re getting treatment so promptly and in a controlled environment. That’ll mean that recovery will be so much swifter. Best of luck with your surgery this morning. I’m so sorry it’s ended in ectopic. It’s such a bizarre emotional space to occupy. Will be thinking of you.
