Pregnant again at 38, 7.5 months after my first baby...

I'm in shock. DD was born in April, she is seven and a half months old. She was conceived very quickly... (wedding night)... I was 37 then and couldn't believe it happened so fast...

I'm 38 now. We had wanted another one if possible and were going to try again after she turned one, but honestly I was prepared for the possibility of it not happening, or not happening as fast, because of my age...

We have been using condoms, but may have been a little careless about body fluids coming into contact... That's the only explanation I can think of!

I'm a week late and took a test today. It was positive.

I'm in shock, mixed emotions... Overjoyed but also a little worried.... DD was six weeks early and I've read that shorter space between births increases the risk of complications.

Has anyone else fallen pregnant so soon after having a baby, especially after age 35? How was your experience? Please share, any words of advice or encouragement would be well appreciated!

I was younger (in my very early 20’s), but I fell pregnant with DC2 when DC1 was only just 8 months old.
My second pregnancy actually felt easier than my first. The first trimester fatigue was on a whole other level second time around, but other than that it was pretty plain sailing. I had minimal morning sickness, and felt generally pretty good.
DC2 did make his appearance a little early - 36+0 - but he was healthy as a horse 🤷🏻‍♀️ It was a textbook Labour and birth. He didn’t need any extra help with anything, he was just a tiny scrap of a thing.

Start away on those pregnancy vitamins… congratulations !! There was 15 months between our 2 so I got pregnant when the older one was 6 months , just weaned … I like you was on the later age of motherhood, ( over 36) and friends of mine had terrible trouble conceiving their second child at 38, 39, 40… the lovely thing about having 2 close in age is that they’ll be happy to do the same thing… parks, playgrounds, sleep… .TV shows.. . So I know it’s daunting, but maybe count your blessings? Also plan and accept help… plus when pregnant with no 2.. you can maybe nap when no 1 naps..

You are very fertile, congratulations! If you don’t want more after this I suggest you use contraception.

We had quite an expensive trip paid for when I discovered our son was in there…I couldn’t go.. but he’s paid me back for that a million times with his cheeky comments and laughs.. his timing wasn’t perfect either.. but no regrets.. my third pregnancy was hoped for, sadly was ectopic and thus was my last.

I had this when I was pregnant with my 3rd baby.
I didn’t know I was pregnant when we left for the trip, and I started puking on the plane. Assumed my holiday was ruined and I’d spend it sick in the hotel room.
Took a pregnancy test when I got to the hotel and nearly shit a brick when it came up positive 🫠🫠🫣😂😂

My 3rd and 4th are 12 months apart. It was the best age gap out of all of them. Congrats!

Congratulations! My first 2 were 10 months apart and my second 2 were 12 months apart, it was a challenge but I wouldn't do it any other way! Take care of yourself, don't let healthcare professionals get to you. Listen to your body, best advice I can give!
