I hate the anxiety and uncertainty that the first trimester brings… anyone else in the same boat?

I’m currently 5 weeks + 2 days pregnant. All being well, this will be our second child. We lost 2 babies in the first trimester in 2022 before having our son.

I just hate the unknown and the uncertainty that being in the first trimester can bring. I know there is never any safe zone, but with a 1 in 4 chance of each pregnancy ending on average, it’s hard to be excited so early on.

Just wondering if anyone feels the same really! I hate not knowing what’s going on inside of me right now!

Same here OP. I am 5 weeks pregnant with my second having had two early losses before having DC.

I had a scan at the EPU this morning as a precaution because I’ve had an ectopic before. Thankfully it was in the right place but by the time I’d got back in the car I was already stressing about the next thing that could go wrong! Seeing it on the screen, just a sac, made me realise how far we’ve got to go and I won’t know if it’s even viable for another two weeks.

I haven’t referred to the midwife yet because it seems too early and uncertain. It’s a shame because I was so anxious throughout my last pregnancy and I really wanted to enjoy the next one!

I’m sorry for your losses, pregnancy after loss of my son was full of anxiety and I also told myself if I ever got pregnant again, I’d want to chill out a bit. It’s just so hard, isn’t it?

I wasn’t going to refer myself until six weeks pregnant but decided to a few days ago… just had my 12 week scan date come through the post and it’s giving me major anxiety. I wasn’t expecting it to come through this quick, but if it was crazy to because I’m only five weeks pregnant and anything could happen.

I’m going to try and book a scan at eight weeks and hope all goes well

Oh wow that appointment has come through really quickly! But the 12 weeks scan is so far away especially when you’re anxious. I have a scan booked in at 7 weeks and that feels like a long wait. Although with a toddler to chase after hopefully it’ll go quite quickly.

I know I’m lucky in a strange way that my history means I get these early scans on the NHS but if I didn’t I would definitely be booking them in private. I know I will be doing that for the second and third trimester anyway. Better get saving I suppose!

Yes, it definitely does help having a toddler keeping you on your toes. I’m so grateful that I have a two-year-old that helps the day go quicker. Hope everything goes well for you at your seven weeks scan

They used to be £39 in my area but I’ve just looked and they are £70 and knowing me I’ll probably want a few of them this pregnancy so yes, I better get saving too!!

Oh ladies, I am in the same boat. Currently 9.5weeks pregnant on no2 but have had 4 losses before he was born in 2024. I had a scan at 6weeks that went well, but obviously within hours I was like "what if I have a MMC now". Definitely having a toddler to chase makes me think about it less, but I also worry that I don't focus on my symptoms enough because I'm chasing a toddler 24/7.

Whyowhomy · 17/11/2025 15:00

7 weeks, haven't booked any scans but petrified that it might not be viable.

Lgn90 · 18/11/2025 10:23

I'm 7 weeks tomorrow and have a private scan booked. Not feeling super confident because I have hardly any symptoms and by this point in my pregnancy with my DS I definitely had pretty strong food aversions and nausea.

Susan4580 · 18/11/2025 11:12

Totally understand. I felt the same. Pregnancy after loss is so difficult. I struggled with feeling grateful and scared at the same time. It felt like no one really understood me especially those that had had more "straightforward" pregnancies. But I did find an app that helped relieve some of the anxiety. It's called Carea. Definitely recommend for pregnancy anxiety, it's full of meditations, affirmations and journaling all specific to mums and pregnancy anxiety. But what I thought was especially great is that it filters triggering content if you're pregnant after loss.

Tinytotdriver · 18/11/2025 15:24

I feel the exact same!
5 weeks + 1 day, had 2 previous MMC, have one child.
Terrified of having another MMC, hating how long the wait is for the 12 week scan.

How’s everyone’s symptoms? I’m not sure if I should be feeling more pregnant right now!

Oh it’s awful isn’t it. Sorry to hear about your losses.

5 weeks 1 day here and it’s just sore boobs and a tiny bit of nausea which could actually be the stress! Wondering if there should be more.

I’m sort of trying to forget about being pregnant until it feels more real but I don’t know if that’s really a healthy way of dealing with it.

As I said before, the strange silver lining of having had an ectopic previously is that I do get early scans which I am grateful for because I’d really struggle with the wait. Can you get a private scan?

Please let me know how your scan goes as I have no symptoms anymore with this pregnancy and I’m worried it is not viable. Sending you lots of hugs and good luck for today x

I'm 10 weeks now and have also lost all symptoms. Apparently it's perfectly normal for them to come and go so try not to worry.

I had zero symptoms with my sons pregnancy.

Thank you so much! It was all good! Measuring a little bit behind where I thought I was at 6w3d so that could explain why I’m not really feeling symptoms yet

Congratulations!! I bet you are relieved. According to my LMP I’m 5 weeks 4 days but I actually think I ovulated a few days later so I think behind behind isn’t uncommon x

Got a bit paranoid this evening that my boobs didn’t hurt anymore so did a Clear Blue digital and it’s gone from 3+ weeks on Sunday night to 2-3 weeks.

Expecting the worst now. Don’t think there’s much hope is there?

Lgn90 · 20/11/2025 09:47

@PessimysticMeg I really think these can change depending on how hydrated you are! I wouldn't give up hope!
