Has anyone got pregnant at 45y?

I have 2 children from a previous relationship. My partner and I were talking about having a baby of our own. I know it’s much harder at this age to get pregnant but I wondered if any one has managed it naturally?

@herewegoagogo I had my last at almost 40 after a big gap and second marriage (they are 5, 15 and 18). No regrets whatsoever, but personally I wouldn't have wanted to be much older. She is my husband's first and last.
How long have you been with your partner and has he got children of his own? I'd say that getting pregnant at 45 is pretty unlikely tbh.

My Sil did and he is now 29 !

herewegoagogo · 16/11/2025 20:11

its not ideal at this age and I know it would be very unlikely! My kids are 13y & 11y. He has 3 already. 22y, 19y & 8y. Been together a year.

I had my last at 41 (planned) and then an abortion at 45

Mrsnothingthanks · 16/11/2025 20:17

@herewegoagogo Personally speaking we probably wouldn't have tried for one together if he already had a child/children of his own and (again personally speaking) not at 45. I'm 44 and definitely in peri!!
I think another huge thing you need to consider is housing. Can you provide another bedroom for another child?
I also notice he has a big gap - are all his kids from same mum?

Mydadsbirthday · 16/11/2025 20:19

Sorry but why on earth would you even consider this - you've only been together a year?! And already have several kids between you. Just why?

Yes I think I’d be more keen if he didn’t have any! TBH I think I’m peri but thought I’d ask the question here.

His 3 live with their Mum (same Mum, just had a whoops with the youngest) majority of the time. Only the youngest stays here a couple nights a week. We are fortunate to have the space for another.

It's entirely possible, but remember every woman is different. You'll have lots of people coming on here with stories of surprise pregnancies at 49 or whatever, but look at the statistics and the odds .
You may get pregnant straight away, you may not.

Lancrelady80 · 16/11/2025 20:23

My mum did . They thought I was the menopause for a while!

FleurDeFleur · 16/11/2025 20:25

So you'll have a 13, an 11 and an 8 yr old (part time) and you've also got space for a new baby?

So did my Mum. Same thing.

OP - being dense here perhaps... How.many bedrooms do you have? So you have an 11 and 13 yo (yours - how often do they live with you?) and he also has an 8 yo who lives with you sometimes. Just trying to figure out the logistics...

Ikeameatballs · 16/11/2025 20:28

I would think very carefully about why you are consider this, what impact it would have on you and your existing dc now and in the future. What is motivating you and your partner in these circumstances?

I was thinking the same, bearing in mind the threads we've had on the issue!

I got pregnant at 44, had an uneventful pregnancy and a healthy baby at 45. The only difference with my first child was we had a planned caesarean and the recommended have it at week 38 because of my age. It does work out for some women. Looking after the baby was harder than it was when I was younger but no regrets.

Having had a bad marriage previously and now being with someone I adore and feel truly happy it would be amazing experiencing having a child in a good relationship. Obviously the year factor is only because of our ages.

I had a 35 weeker ds at 43. 2 and a mc at 48. That was a shocker...

4 beds and a study downstairs which my eldest could have as a bedroom. Mine are here 50/50.

Strangely, 1 of my cousins and 1 of DH's both had babies at 44, 1 might have been 45 at the birth.
1 had a much older child from her 1st marriage, her 2nd husband had no children and after years together, started TTC.
The other cousin, it was her 1st child after years of TTC.
One couple is nearing retirement yet their DD has only just gone to uni and is still quite reliant on them.

Personally, I TTC over 10yrs, lost 3, rounds of IVF and no cause for sub-fertility found. We stopped at 43. I had the NIPT and in one pregnancy a TFMR. DH and I had been together 20yrs and married 12 by that stage. I can't imagine embarking on an older pregnancy, with the higher possibility of a poor outcome, with a man I'd only known a year!!!

Thanks @Melonjuicejust curious at the moment. Not set on the idea. It does need serious consideration.

Enjoy being the two of you. You have so much to look forward to as people without bringing in another child when you have so many between you already.

mamagogo1 · 16/11/2025 20:38

My sil did after years of trying then giving up. I would say she is exhausted compared to how I was considerably younger

That would be lovely, what a blessing! As I said, every woman is different, it could happen, I've known a couple of women who've successfully had babies in their mid 40s. You could just go for it!
