Low lying posterior placenta

Hi all 👋🏻

Has anyone experiences low lying posterior placenta?

Mine was diagnosed at 20 weeks and was 10mm away from cervical os.
28 weeks 10mm away from cervical os.

At 32 weeks I was sent to a more specialist hospital to scan for signs of placenta accreta and they said it was 17mm away although this may have always been the case as their ultrasound machines were more advanced.

Wednesday I will have my 36 week scan and if it hasnt moved anymore I will have a c section on Thursday morning.

Looking for stories, positive ans negative and anterior and posterior.

Thanks

I had a planned c section at 37 weeks and all went super smooth. Good luck. Sounds like you are being monitored appropriately and all will be fine.

Part of me hopes it hasn't moved as the not knowing for sure if shes coming this week has been a rollercoaster 😳

Mine moved from 1.4 at 20 weeks to 2.4cm at week 34 so I’m booked for C-section at week 39 currently

I didn’t think it would move, but it did

I hope it doesn’t drop back down 😂

Best of luck OP!

Hiya

Yes, posterior!

They are less likely to move generally, but still good odds. Because I’ve had previous EMCS as well it was pretty much 50/50

They are happy with the 2.4cm it seems, as I haven’t heard any more and am booked with consultant for week 38 and delivery week 39

I am currently 35 + 4 and hoping to make it through to 39 with no more dramas!

Yours sound quite good looking for further complications etc. All I had was a nosey to see if it’s gone up or not

It’s hard having the uncertainty isn’t is 😢

Yes my due date is 17/12 too 😂 how mad!!

First daughter turning 4 in January - parenting a toddler whilst pregnant is not for the faint hearted, that's for sure.

I had exactly the same. It was picked up as low lying at the 20 week scan. Hadn’t moved by 28 weeks and final scan at 36+5 showed it had dropped and was actually covering the cervix so had become placenta previa. I had a c section at 37 weeks exactly.

I did have to have extra staff in the room and bled however they had it completely in hand as it was all expected. I spent a little longer in recovery while they gave some blood (my own blood that was cleaned).

I was discharged the next day. The only thing I hated about it all was the not knowing from 20 weeks and the birth being a bit of a guessing game.

TheBoomingVoiceofExperience · 16/11/2025 08:51

I had a full placenta previa and a section at 36 weeks. Had minimal blood loss and the placenta apparently delivered itself very cleanly with the injection thing they give you. Was all hooked up to the blood recycling machine but they said there was less blood than in a normal section. Had approx 1billion people in the room and milling around though.

i did have a bleed in my third trimester and then was monitored in hospital until the birth, which was hard on my oldest but baby arrived safely.

my recovery was better than for my first section, which was an emergency.

hopefully reassuring OP!
