I know that at our local farm park there are signs saying to pregnant women to stay away from the sheep as they can carry diseases which cause miscarriage. I was just wondering if this is only applicable in early pregnancy? I go away with ds aged 2 at the end of the month when I will be 7 months pg. Do you think it is safe to take him to a farm or not? Am not seeing midwife until I get back and don't really want to ring her if one of you can help TIA

I read this in the book I was given by the midwife, and this was on the page for week 12.

Im sorry Im not sure how long it applies for.

You will be fine...you must avoid touching new born lambs and their placentas but otherwise you'll be fine. Just rememeber to wash your hands before eating and lambing time will be over surely

I went to many farms at all stages of pregnancy - just don't stroke the animals (especially sheep, although it's the wrong time of year for lambing in any case) and wash your hands regularly. Have fun!

Lambing is over now - it is March/April that you need to be careful and even if it was during that time I doubt that you would come into contact with the sheep afterbirth.

I went on holiday on a farm at 20 weeks. I was not allowed near lactating or lambing sheep but apart from that it's fine. Obviously it's worth being careful with hand hygiene - and training your kids to wash hands frequently - because they can pass bugs to you even if you haven't been in the fields.

Lambing time was several months ago though
