5w 3d but no fetal pole - yet 20000hcg?

Hi all, I ended up in a&e last night due to pain on one side with LMP dating me at 6w 6d.

The scan showed me at 5w 3d with a gestational sack and yolk sac but no fetal pole - I've also been told I've an ovarian cyst and a bicornate uterus, something I wasn't aware of during my first pregnancy which all went well.

The gynecologist made me feel like we have no hope of baby being viable due to high hcg but no fetal pole. I've been referred to the early maternity unit so I'm awaiting contact from then but does anyone have anything similar they've gone through? I know 5w 3d is early to see a fetal pole and often isn't, but being told there should be one there due to high hcg is so worrying

Do you know when you ovulated? When did you first get a positive test? If you are only 5w3 then not seeing a fetal pole isn’t unusual. If you are more like 6w6 then it’s looking like the pregnancy isn’t viable. The only thing you can really do is wait unfortunately.

I've no idea when I ovulated, baby wasn't planned so I wasn't tracking. I knew the dates would be out by at least a week so 5w 3d sounds right going by possible conception window. Fortunately EMU got in touch with me this morning and I've got an appointment in 2 weeks time - I was more concerned about the gynecologist saying with 20,000hcg should show a fetal pole even if the 5w 3d measurement is right.

I had a scan at 6w4d and at first the consultant could only see the gestational sac, he was going to rebook me as he said he couldn’t see anything in the sac initially, he had to look further and he then found a little flickering heartbeat. She is now 4 months old.

Also with my daughter who is 7, I had bloods taken 2 days apart and they went from 60 something to over 1100 in 48 hours. I was around 4 weeks. This was at epu, they done an abdominal scan and couldn’t see anything and I declined an internal so they done bloods, they only gave me the results and that was it didn’t say anything more. Then when I had my first scan I got a phone call to say she’d come back high risk for down syndrome because the hcg was abnormally high. She didn’t have it and was a healthy baby. So in my experience the hcg level can be very high and it doesn’t necessarily mean anything bad.

All you can do is wait but do have hope that I was told at 6w4d they couldn’t see anything but just the sac x
