Quiet days followed by active days - 28 weeks

Hi all,

Im 28 weeks and feel baby everyday which some quite strong (sometimes a bit painful!) jabs and kicks that are often visible even through my clothes.

I’ve not noticed any particular pattern though but I have noticed some days are a lot quieter than others.

Today for example I barely felt anything all day just a few light movements but no big kicks. I was starting to get a little worried but at home have lay down and drank some cold water and had an ice lolly and felt about 10 pretty big movements in 10 minutes so feeling calmer now.

Does anyone else find they have really quiet days sometimes and then really active days? I wonder if it coincides with growth spurts?

Hi @Yellowdaff25, 28+4 here and EXACTLY the same. Yesterday I barely felt her, a few flutters but would’ve missed it if I’d been busy.

today she has been much more active! Like you, can see movements through clothes.

I think that if quiet days and then active days are the norm then that’s ok, if that changes and the active days decrease then that’s when to worry. I think it’s any changes to what’s normal for your little one that you need to lookout for.

wishing you a good rest of your pregnancy.❤️

I think they’re more quiet when you’re more active as the movement rocks them off to sleep. Also if you’re really busy you will notice them less, so double whammy. And the opposite is then also true, if you’re not busy, sitting still, paying attention, they will wake up, be more active, and you will notice more too

I had days where my son's movements were violent and forceful and other days where they were more gentle as long as he was regularly moving I was told it was fine of his intensity varied

@Yellowdaff25 I could have written this myself. I'm 28w+1 first pregnancy, posterior placenta. Some days she feels higher up and the movements are more violent and I can see them through my clothes. Then other days it's more a fluttering but lower in my pelvis. I even went to triage about 10 days ago because I was worried the movements were much quieter. Heartbeat measured fine. They said she's mostly likely changed position as there is still quite a bit of room to move around. I think if she's facing my back I also don't feel movements so strongly.
My midwife this week said to divide the day up into quarters and consider movements in each quarter.

36+5 here and baby still has active and quiet days. I have an anterior placenta, plus they're head down AND facing in so some days I don't feel anything until I sit down, concentrate and push on my bump.
