Literally was putting the last of 3 slices of saucisson sec in my mouth when I realised I shouldn't be eating that while pregnant. I'm currently 6 weeks.

This is off the back of, less than 2 weeks ago, eating some goats cheese as a starter in a restaurant and suddenly remembering later that evening it's on the banned list. I felt terrible, vowed to be more careful in future and now I've done it again!!! I haven't even had my booking appointment yet!

Now low key freaking out I've got toxoplasmosis or listeria or something. I'll mention it to the midwife but it'll be ok won't it?

You'll find most goats cheese is made with pasteurised milk these days.
I eat about two packets a week and have done for months in this pregnancy as well as feta. All okay.
The dried sausage isn't recommended but I'm sure there are people who do it anyway (much like sushi, which Ive also enjoyed)
The risk is so so so low especially from a small amount if its from a trusted place
Are you uk based?

AmberStoat · 04/11/2025 19:28

Thanks for replying @LaTable. Yes I am based in the UK. It was just from Tesco so hopefully not too risky.

I'm just annoyed with myself. It's such a simple thing to avoid!

They don't do routine toxoplasmosis testing over there.
But you're much more likely to get something from unwashed fruit and pre packaged salad or gardening without washing your hands after than a couple of mistakes with properly prepared food x

Relax, the risk is so so so tiny. Read Emily Ostemier "Expecting Better" and you'll see what tosh most of the guidelines are.
