When did you tell your workplace that your pregnant?

I am currently 10+3 pregnant and on sick from work due to undiagnosed seizures which the GP and occupational health deemed me unsafe to work. I am waiting tests/referrals/diagnosis and have an urgent referral to neurology but it is an extremely long wait. I have no idea when I will be returning to work, my current note is until January. When and how do I tell my work place that I’m pregnant? I’ve had a lot of support from HR regarding my health but not from my manager or other colleagues so I’m very anxious about informing them I’m expecting. Surely I can’t announce to everyone at about 12 weeks if my workplace doesn’t know as it will definitely get back to them. Any advice please? Xx

Yes, tell them as soon as you can (email will suffice). It will/should give you extra protection.

I informed my manager at around 7/8 weeks one both occasions (sadly ended in MMC) but glad I did as I’ve been able to take sick leave to deal with this without any backlash as your protected against discrimination. I’d drop your line manager and HR an email and leave it at that just before you wish to announce it

Will this affect my current situation as I’m not in work due to an unrelated pregnancy condition. I feel like it makes it so complicated which is what is causing me anxiety. I’m concerned they are doing to dismiss me

I’m so sorry to hear of your loss.
I obviously have no ideas about when I’d start maternity leave etc at the moment as it’s so early in and I have no idea when or if I’d be returning to work before I go off on mat leave due to the seizures. If I just inform them of the pregnancy and that’s it will that be okay? Or am I going to open myself up to loads of questions?
im so anxious about this x

Just inform them that you are pregnant (state which week) and that you seek sick leave so as to manage your symptoms as you are unable to focus at work. they will not ask additional questions.

I’m already on sick leave for the undiagnosed seizures. While I’ve been on sick leave I have discovered I’m pregnant so not currently working. My note ends January but there is no guarantee I will return to work when the note comes to an end as it is dependent on my condition, if it’s under control/I have a diagnosis etc xx
