Hi mamas,

Im 9 weeks pregnant tomorrow and I was prescribed progesterone last week due to a previous mc and some bleeding in my new pregnancy last week and since I've been taking them I've had nothing but problems.. I started taking them rectally as I knew some of the side affects can include thrush and didnt want to risk that but after a few days my bum was feeling quite tender and noticed I had a pile so I changed to doing it vaginally as of yesterday and this morning I have woken up with the worst uti.. painful urination, constantly need to go to the loo and lower andominal pain so have got an appointment later this morning with gp. Now im no rookie when it comes to uti's as unfortunately suffered with them for the past 15 years so when symptoms come i know exactly what it is but I'm supposed to be taking progesterone until 16 weeks but honestly don't know if I can continue them for another 7 weeks when I'm feeling this bad!! Has anyone got any experience with taking progesterone? Does it get any bloody easier?

I took them for 12 weeks in my last pregnancy in 2023 and I'm now 4 weeks into taking them.this pregnancy. 1st pregnancy I took them vaginally only and the only issue I had was a bit of Leakage and the smell the residue can leave if it gets on your underwear. I bought some cheap underwear and used sanitary pads. I always got up after 30-40 mins and had a little wipe and wash down there so to avoid thrush. They also made me extremely bloated.

This time round I have a toddler so find taking them rectically easier as I don't quite have as much time to be laying down / washing up after, especially in the mornings. Again the bloat is extreme but otherwise all fine.

I don't think they are the cause of your UTI particularly if you are already prone to them.

Yeah I noticed a bit of leakage yesterday after using them vaginally for the first time but then the uti came on this morning and I'm already in pain down there so didn't want to take another today and make it worse just in case.

I did try the progesterone rectally but as I said it's now caused piles which is always fun so not only is my back end hurting my front is too🤣 will try and persist with them as I want to do everything I can to support the pregnancy x
