Progesterone- does it matter if used vaginally or rectally for absorption?

I’ve just started to take cyclogest and I’m wondering if it makes any difference which way it’s used? I’d prefer rectally to avoid the risk of uti or infection but just want to be sure it’s absorbed as well that way?

Yes rectally is fine! I've been doing it that way since around 6 weeks, I'm now 21 weeks and all is fine. I found at first it was causing me to have a bit of a bad belly but I'm not sure if that was also early pregnancy hormones as it's fine now. So much less mess and easy to do once you're used to it! x

I was on it for both my pregnancies and my consultant said to only use it vaginally so I’d check.

@Pennyroses oh that’s good to know! I’d much prefer to use it rectally as I think it’ll be less messy and I really want to avoid any risk of infection.

@AnneLovesGilbert oh that’s interesting. When they gave them to me at the EPU they said either was fine but most women do vaginally. I just wanted to be 100% sure absorption is a good both ways so I might double check again. Did your consultant say why he recommends vaginally?
