Your story of pregnancy discrimination at work

Hello! I’ve recently gone through a nasty episode of what (I think) looks like pregnancy discrimination - I was on track for promotion, and despite going strong and delivering above and beyond, I was demoted, downgraded, my manager quietly took work away from me and claimed it as his own and when I asked for an explanation, given as there had been no negative feedback throughout the year (on the contrary), he said, and I quote, ‘you had your personal issue and it showed’. Anyway. I raised a grievance and an investigation is underway.

However, I finally started working on an online community for working mothers, to add to the many voices who have started speaking up against the systemic issues. The vision is to eventually provide sufficient evidence so that HR workflows change in companies across the country, to better support pregnant and returning mothers.

I hope this is allowed - I wanted to ask whether something similar had happened to you and what the outcome had been. I’d like to share some more stories on the profile, to help any expecting mothers know they’re not alone and to provide them with ideas and tools to protect themselves.

Please delete if this type of request isn’t allowed.

Many thanks!

Not pregnancy discrimination but I cannot for the life of me get promoted. I can do the job but the doors just keep slamming in my face. Yes, I have 2 young children, one not at school yet, but it’s so frustrating and disheartening. I’m trying to stay positive and think maybe it’ll be different when both kids are school age.
