Round ligament pain - cramping

Hi, I’m 15 weeks pregnant. Been experiencing on off cramping since about Friday. I called the maternity unit for reassurance and they said it sounded like round ligament pain. It’s exactly like period pain and Coming and going in waves. I’m surprised at how sustained they are and having to take paracetamol and use a hot water bottle sometimes. Has anyone else experienced these specific period like cramps. I’ve had no bleeding etc and last week I did get that odd acute quick pain when I coughed so it’s different from that type of pain. None of my mum friends have had this and I’m just worried it’s not RLP. Thanks for reading x

I’d probably have another word with the maternity unit OP, especially because it’s been going on for a few days now. I had round ligament pain but it was more like a sharp stab when I stood up too fast, or when I sneezed. I wouldn’t have described it as period cramps. In your shoes I’d probably want to get checked over to make sure there isn’t something else going on, I know a UTI for example can cause cramping in pregnancy.

I agree with you the sudden sharp pain e.g. when you sneeze is more RLP. The waves of period like pain sound a bit different. Could you be dehydrated. That can cause early contractions (Braxton hicks) but they are usually more painless tightening. Hope you get sorted soon with some answers x

I had round ligament pain with my first and it was exactly as you described. It’s scary when you are not sure. If your gut tells you it’s something more then ask to be seen but RLP does hurt a lot and feels like period pain x

Thanks for the replies, I went up to get checked last night and turns out I’ve got a uti which explains some of the pain. Got anti biotics so hopefully it eases up In a few days.
