Home Insemination Kits? Advice / Views?

currently trying to conceive (42 year old woman) and currently having fertility tests done to check if any fertility issues. I gave birth with no pregnancy issues (took about 6 months to conceive) to my 2 year old, 2 years ago and wondered what people’s views are on home insemination kits? We’ve been trying every day on my 5 day fertility window for the last 5 months but getting exhausting and the excitement going due to the pressure. I’ve seen glowing reviews for Two Plus Fertility ones (the higher end £££) and Tilly Blooms kits (slightly cheaper) plus seen reviews of people using sterilised calpol syringes and sterilised yogurt pots. Any advice or experiences using these home kits along with fertility lubricants like Conceive Plus?

Hi there,

as my name suggests I am pregnant through artificial insemination. I am married to a woman so due to IVF not being immediately available to us without spending thousands we “did it ourselves”. My wife carried our now two year old son and I’m 26 weeks pregnant with a girl using the same donor.

I genuinely believe that the high end fertility kits are a marketing ploy. My wife caught second time with our son and me third, I’m 39 as well so not super young.

I’ve attached the picture of the syringes we used. Or donor gave us his sample in a sterile specimen pot. We inserted the syringe and pushed the plunger slowly. We then reached orgasm and put our legs up in the air for 20 mins. The last two processes aren’t scientifically proven, but it worked for us. Without the force of the male ejaculation we wanted to maximise chances of the sperm getting to and through the cervix.

we didn’t use any fancy lubes. We did ovulation track and inseminated the day before predicted ovulation, when we started getting a surge and then the day after peak incase ovulation was a little later. Infact my wife caught with just one insemination.

oh and I took macca root, proceive max and CoQ10. Good luck!! Xx

Thank you so much for all your advice and recommendations ❤️ Congratulations to you both that you self managed your pregnancies as I agree the kits seem to be a marketing ploy. At the moment I’m just looking in to any possible way to help possible before time runs out 😩

We used two plus on a deal, it was still rather expensive but it did the job! I'd say the only difference from the syringes posted above is the little rubbery caps they give you which come off and sit inside you to hold the ejaculate in for longer.
