Hi, I'm looking for some reassurance I have came back higher chance (1 in 108) on my screening test at 12 weeks for edwards/pataus syndrome.
The midwife had explained that i have low hormone levels (cant remember how low please forgive me) and low PAPP-A 0.15MoM, which has triggered the higher result. My NT off the scan was only 1.3mm so really low and head circumference was fine. The midwife said the baby looked really happy.
I had low PAPP-A with my daughter she was born 37 weeks in 2018 and was perfect.
I have had 3 miscarriages before this successful pregnancy this is my last chance 😔
I am beyond heartbroken I have cried since I found out yesterday.
Im looking for some reassurance of how the NIPT test worked for people which I will be getting today.
Or if anyone has any success stories they can give me. My daughter is so excited this will break all of our hearts if it is the worst outcome 🥹.
Thanks for taking the time to read 💔

It’s still a less than 1% chance.. the odds are that your baby is going to be fine

I was going to say exactly this. Less than 1% chance! I’ve seen women have a 1 in 2 chance and had a healthy baby on here. If I ever get to a 12 week scan, I think I’d feel ok about 1 in 108! Did you talk to the midwife about it, what informs the stats and about your worry in it? I’m speaking from a place of ignorance of course as I’ve only had miscarriages so far, but honestly, those numbers sound rather hopeful to me.

The normal stats are 1 in 5000, of course varies from person to person. But after 3 miscarriages hearing this is devastating, while agreed it's not as low as some people. But getting a private phone call yesterday to say I'm high risk has put me in a panic 🙈. They have offered the invasive testing if I wanted it but I have opted for NIPT bloods which is 99% accurate x

Sorry you're going through this OP, it's such a worry. In my last pregnancy I had a 1 in 28 result for Down's Syndrome. How old are you? I was 39 and also had a low PAPP-A, although I forget the number. The NT was around 2.8 I think. We decided to go for NIPT as I was so torn about getting amniocentesis. It was a low risk result and DS2 was born completely healthy. The screening midwife thought my age was skewing the result alongside the lower PAPP-A. Although I knew NIPT isn't diagnostic I was happy to accept the result as there is a lot of evidence that it is highly accurate. I'd also had 2 miscarriages before that pregnancy and it broke me as I was already so fragile with worry. All you can do my love is hold your breath until you get the results, and try to keep your mind on other things when you can (very very hard i know). I was doing old school crossword books to try and send my focus somewhere else. I got my results back within 4-5 working days, really hope you're not waiting too long for yours x

it’s good that you’ll get more information and hopefully reassurance from your next tests, I definitely didn’t mean to downgrade your worry, certainly with hearing “high risk” I know I’d not feel great. I hope all this worry dissolves soon with the additional tests and wish a happy healthy baby for you x

Just wanted to send a hand hold. ❤️. Stay strong

Thank you for your reply, I have just turned 30 my hcg levels were 0.65MoM while not being low on their own that added with the low PAPP-A level has gave me the higher result for both edwards and pataus. Down syndrome is low. She did say 7 to me so I'm hoping that is true xx
