Bump Going Hard at 41 Weeks

I am now 41 weeks pg and my bump has started to look funny. By that I mean it looks like a normal baby bump from the top to my belly button and then underneath its a bit wobbly. In the wobbly bit though there is a bit that is rock hard and a bit tender to touch, it feels really strange and was just wondering whether it was something to be concerned about? The baby is moving more so now than in the last couple of weeks so I'm not concerned on that front, just that this bit at the very bottom is rock hard and a bit sore. Think it is possibly muscle but not sure.

Sounds like contractions to me, I had the same when I was pg with twins and unknown to me I was in early labour. Hope all is okay, sure it is - good luck

There is a test to see if it is a contraction - take a finger and put it two inches below your tummy button a few inches apart. Normally you will be able to depress the abdomen. If you can't, you are having a contraction.

Thanks for the replies. It's definately not a contraction as it doesn't come and go, it is more of a skin/muscle thing rather than an internal thing if that makes sense?

Hmm if your bump is permanently hard you should see a midwife to check it out. Most likely the hard thing is a bit of your baby - probably the shoulders, but it's unusual for it to not move on prodding!

I wonder if the baby is lying back to back (it's spine along yours) and that the hard bit you're reporting is actually part of the head / limb. I find those bits are always sore to touch. The other thing is if you pressing pulls on the ligaments of the uterus somehow, that would also feel sore. Perhaps get your MW to confirm the position of the baby?

MW checked yesterday and apparently there is no reason for it other than swelling which I have been assured will go down when the baby finally arrives.

The baby is lying in the correct position now, I can feel his back at the front of my bump. Feeling better now about it. I also think it had something to do with stretch marks because this time round, I don't have any new ones, just the old ones stretching a bit and getting inflamed. Probably worrying myself over nothing!

Had a sweep yesterday and a show today so hoping that things get started soon, otherwise will be induced on Tuesday, which I am really trying to avoid!

Thanks for your responses
