I had 6 miscarriages in a row.
Last one was 2nd August. I didn't have a period but fell pregnant a week and half after when I stopped bleeding (to my understanding) because husband and I didn't have sex until 9 days after.
Its been really hard 😪
I have had minor spotting and bleeding so went to the early pregnancy unit at my local hospital. Had the scan and everything with baby is great and baby is 4cm long. The sonographer said the heartbeat looks good and baby is wiggling about.
I then asked her how far I am and she said uoure 10 weeks and 4 days. I was like but that's going from date of last period. She said yeah that'd what we go by what the midwife tells us.
And I said, well I didn't get pregnant on the 2nd as I was bleeding on the 2nd. She said well that'd how far gone you are.
She then told me to go sit back down in the waiting area and wait for the doctor.

The doctor looked at my notes and said youre 10+5 days and measuring at 11 weeks. And I said but 10 weeks and 5 days ago was the day before I miscarried. She was nice and kind and said oh im sorry to hear that. And said this is very accurate. Which I said how can I be pregnant the day before I miscarried, bleeding and still be pregnant?????
She said well you have your 13 week scan soon and that will be more accurate. I looked on my hospital health app and my due date has been brought forward 1 day and it says on my paperwork 11 weeks pregnant! Gestational age: 11weeks!!!

I honestly thought id be more around 8/9 as obviously didn't have sex until 1 week plus after miscarrying and before I miscarried the last time I had sex was 1 week prior.

Anyone please can tell me what's going on......
😕

How many weeks were you when you miscarried? Did you get that confirmed by a scan too?

Hellothere89 · 17/10/2025 08:24

The day you started bleeding is classed as first day of your last period I think - so those dates add up.

No, i didnt have a scan as it was very early on. I was less than a month. I had a positive test and then passed lots of blood and clots in the toilet and shower. It was awful. That was Saturday 2nd August. And then I didn't have sex until Wednesday 13th August.

If you conceived around the 13th of August then those dates add up. That would be 9 weeks ago, plus the 2~ weeks before that they count as pregnancy weeks.

Sorry,maybe I should explain better.
I thought that when you get a scan it will tell you as well the exact time frame if how many weeks pregnant you are. When you go for your 12 week nuchal dating scan, you will find out for sure. Im just surprised that on the early scan, it says 10 weeks and 5 days as the gestational age not age since last period. If that makes sense.

Then when I spoke to the doctor she said, yeah youre 10 weeks 5 days as your period was 10 weeks 4 days so youre pregnant from 1 day before and this is very accurate going by our measurements.

I also looked up 4cm foetus and it does say 11 weeks.

Why are you focusing on the past? Just be happy that you have a healthy baby wiggling around now after 6 miscarriages, appreciate and enjoy the moment.

They will always count the two weeks before as part of the gestational age. That's how pregnancy weeks are counted. A 4cm foetus would have been conceived 9 weeks ago, but you will still be 11 weeks pregnant.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! Almost out the first trimester!

Ok, thank you. Ive got another scan in the school holidays. So maybe thag will be more clear.

Believe me, im so excited to get out of the first trimester. Ive been so so sick. From the moment I wake up til I go to bed. Ive lost a lot of weight too. Im losing between 1 and 2 kilos a week 😪

It won't make things more clear. No matter when you get a scan, the two weeks before you ovulate/conceive is ALWAYS counted in the gestational age. It's just how it works. Otherwise your due date would move by two weeks when you have your 12wk scan rather than a day or two.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I don't think you quite understand how the dating goes. A typical pregnancy is 40 weeks, but in reality it's actually only 38 weeks as the first 2 weeks counted are the time between your period / bleed and when you conceive.

Every scan will be dated from your last period.

You need to stop focusing on the date of conception as its confusing you.

Yes, thank you for explaining to me. Appreciate it :)
