Trying to conceive

Hi all, I have just started trying to conceive and currently using the clear blue advanced ovulation test. I'm on day five of having a flashing smiley and starting to lose hope that I am going to ovulate and see the solid smiley. Am I right to be getting worried at this stage or just being impatient haha. Any help greatly appreciated ! TIA

What CD are you?

Edited to add: loads of TTC info, tips and people in the same boat over on the Conception board

I am CD20 but don't currently know how long my cycle is as only just starting to track

But you must roughly know how often you get your period?

GemmaAnnabelle · 16/10/2025 17:56

No I don't unfortunately ! I have never had the need to track before for various reasons.

I never had a clue how long my cycles were before I started actively trying to conceive. Why would you? Unless you're being careful and trying NOT to conceive. It's more common than people realise.

You release LH early in the morning, it then filters out in the kidneys later in the the day, so it's best to do an LH test in the evening when the concentration will be strongest. Lots of patience is needed for this, or you'll go loopy. Good luck! xx

Interesting!
I guess I never liked being "surprised" by my period starting so I always knew when to expect it! I assumed most people knew the approx length of their cycles.

Whilst TTC I tracked all the other stuff too 😁

Regarding your original question, I got on fine just with the cheapy LH strips off Amazon, didn't even know there were flashing smiley things!

I just tested from approx CD each morning, then twice a day around the middle of my cycle. When the test line was as dark as the control line I assumed ovulation would occur in the next day or so.

Tracked everything including BBT on Fertility Friend which gave nice clear charts.

Glad I'm not the only one then haha 🙈
oh really ! I thought it's best to do the tests in the morning ! Thanks for your help

I've had the flashing smiley for 6 days now ! Is there still a chance of getting the solid smiley ?

Honestly OP, I’d ditch the tests. You’ve just started ttc and it sounds like it’s causing unnecessary stress. My consultant said they can be very inaccurate and you may miss the solid smiley if you test at the wrong time of day. She recommended dtd every 1-2 days from around day 7 for a few weeks. Worked for us!
