Sweeps - when is the best time to have one?

I think sweeps are usually done at 41 weeks. Are they more effective at that point than at, say, term + 12 days?

Thinking of refusing any offers of stretching and sweeping but might consider one as a last ditch attempt at a VBAC at term + 12!

Thanks!

I had a sweep at Term+12 with DD and my waters broke at midnight that same day and she was born at 11.30pm the next night.

The sweep was fine actually and I was really glad I had it as we were talking induction otherwise.

I had one at 38 weeks with ds1. I'd been in early labour for a week with trips to and from the hospital all the time so the consultant gave me a sweep in the afternoon and I went into labour properly the next morning. It seems amazing to me now but he actually booked me in for an induction for 2 days after I gave birth
