Ondansetron, how long did it take to work?

Hi everyone, I'm over 15 weeks pregnant and still really struggling with pregnancy sickness, being sick daily and lots of nausea meaning I'm completely debilitated. I've not been out properly in about 10 weeks I think. Doctors have prescribed me Ondansetron alongside Xonvea after trying Cyclazine and Prochlorperazine aswell. Can I ask how long did it take to work for people? I'm really hoping for a miracle as nothing has helped so far. I've only taken my first two tablets today. Also, did anyone get offered anything else? If Ondansetron didn't work well? I'm so hoping cuz it's second line medication that it will work well. Don't know how many more weeks / months I can cope with the sickness xx

Been taking ondansetron and xonvea since 7 weeks. Took about 3-4 days to work. It stopped me vomiting and reduced nausea but the nausia was still horrendous until about 12 weeks and the nausia haa gradually been improving every couple of weeks since. Now 18 weeks and still on both medications and I still have to eat every 2 hours to keep nausia down but nausia I still a problem for me.

You should start to see some improvement over the next few weeks naturally as well. So the medication will hopefully help you but so will your pregnancy progressing hopefully.

I feel for you, it's hell.

Ah you poor soul it sounds like you’ve been going through it and you have my sympathies. I had HG both pregnancies - the holy trinity of cyclizine, ondansetron and metaclopramide finally helped me get it under control. Ondansetron was the last one to be added and started working for me very quickly - within a day or so. I also recall that I ended up quite constipated so do make sure you keep an eye on that and take preventative measures. Sending you my best wishes.

Mine took a few days and then didn’t completely end the nausea and vomiting but took the edge off so I could function. Be prepared for the horrendous constipation though and try to get ahead of that with fiber, water and a stool softener.
