Blood at 7+5, what should I do?

Help. Just went to the loo and there was blood. Only a few drops, but bright red.

Have a scan booked for Tuesday anyway, so there's no point going to the GP, as they prob wouldn't get me in any quicker than anyway (maybe Monday but seems a bit pointless).

Rang DH and he said wait an hour or two, check again and if there's more, we'll try to get a private scan appointment (open til 9pm tonight, but don't know how busy they are). If clear, then he thinks wait till Tuesday.

It shouldn't make a difference, but I'm supposed to be going to Barcelona with my friend this weekend, and I don't want to let her down either.

In 2 minds as to whether to ring and just try to get a private appointment anyway, or wait a while like DH says.

Fuck fuck fuck. Sorry. I'm 7+5 and have had 2 previous miscarriages (hence the early NHS scan booked for Tues). What would you do?

I would leave it for today and see how the bleeding goes. If you continue to bleed and you miscarry in the next few days, then a scan tonight would have cost you money that you needn't have spent.

Can you make an appointment for a private scan for Friday and then cancel it if the bleeding stops? Or do you have to pay a deposit?

Bumping for you.

tryingnottoobsess · 04/06/2008 14:55

thanks nonickname, that's a very rational prespective, just what I need! A scan won't affect the outcome will it?

You're right, i think I need to take a deep breath and wait a little longer to see what happens. Thanks.

I would go and lie down... (left side apparently is the best).

Maybe call up about a private appointment and tell them you MIGHT be needing one, find out if they are busy or not?

Hope everything goes okay xx

No real advice on the scan, but wanted to say I had lots of bright red blood and clots just a couple of weeks ago (I was 6+5 then) I got a scan the same day by going to A&E, everything was fine, so even fresh blood doesn't have to mean the worst.

I do know how you are feeling though, I had a MC in January, if getting a scan sooner is going to help your state of mind then do it.

Good luck

luvaduck · 04/06/2008 15:05

a scan won't affect the outcome at all
i would wait till tues to see how it goes
if scan is fine today but still blood on mon/tues you'll need that scan then as well

it is very commom to bleed in early pregnancy and it doesn't mean you'll lose it

good luck i know how horrid it is
take care of yourself

if you do miscarry (heaven forbid) make sure you get referred to recurrent miscrariage clinic to find out what the problem is...

when to go to docs: severe pain, esp if one sided
heavy blood loss
feeling dizzy
fever

you can always call GP for advcei though and get a tlelephone consulataion

luvaduck · 04/06/2008 15:06

ps you could call GP - she might be able to get you in sooner....

tryingnottoobsess · 04/06/2008 15:15

Thanks all. Calming down a bit, but still rebounding between, 'sod it, have a scan' and 'no, wait til Tuesday.'

luvaduck, good idea to have a phone appt with GP.

and plummed, will call the private place now, so at least I'll know whether tonight is an option.

NJ, I remember your situation a couple of weeks ago... sounded hellish, but thanks for reminding me it doesn't necessarily mean the worst.

Sorry you are going through this.

Me being me would have the scan as soon as possible, especially because of your other losses. At least you will know then, fingers crossed everything will be ok and you can still go away with your friend instead of worrying all weekend.

Just my thought.

Take care.

How are you TryingNotToObsess? Have you made any decisions?

tryingnottoobsess · 05/06/2008 09:36

we saw a heartbeat!!

After flapping around for a while and phoning the GP, we decided to go for the private scan, as they could see us at 9pm last night.

The sonog said all looked fine, and she couldn't see the cause of the bleeding.

Thanks everyone for your messages... it really helped.

Awwww, that's great news!!

It is like getting that BFP all over again isn't it?!!

Make sure you rest and look after yourself now, and I was told to not have sex until 7 days after any bleeding.

Good luck for the rest of the pregnancy

So pleased for you.

tryingnottoobsess · 05/06/2008 10:45

Cheers guys!

Yeah NJ, I remembered that from your episode, and told DH. To be honest though, I think he's terrified of upsetting anything in there and i was more bothered than him!
