Brown Spotting 6 weeks Pregnant

Jessrae · 09/10/2025 09:54

I have had a rollercoaster pregnancy so far where my HCG was very low and slow to rise initially but then sky rocketed on my 4th Beta- more than doubling every 48 hours and was well within the normal range.
prior to this I had been told my pregnancy would not be viable and was expecting a PUL/ ectopic diagnosis if my levels continued to rise slowly, so the 4th Beta draw was an absolute shock!
that was on Saturday the 4th October- straight after that result I started having brown discharge!
I had an abdominal ultrasound on Monday the 6th and a gestational sac and yolk sac were observed in my uterus measuring 5-6 weeks- was very shocked! No fetal pole or HB yet but this was of no concern at my gestation.
i mentioned my spotting during the ultrasound, nothing was observed to explain it and I was told it was not concerning!
however- the spotting/ discharge continues and it has not been 5 days/ it is intermittent throughout the day and only when I wipe- some small brown discharge marks observed on my panty liner throughout they day.
it has remained brown in colour.

I am so worried as I feel like this pregnancy has been wrote off since day 1 and I am just waiting for it all to go wrong.
i also took a clear blue digital yesterday and still remains 2-3 which it was on Friday!

i am spiralling- I am also a Midwife myself and I know that all this can be normal but something is telling me it isn’t for me!

i also cannot be sure of exact gestation as I didn’t get a faint positive until I was 5 days late- however- I am assuming I ovulated at least a week late due to a bad UTI when I was due to ovulate- so this would make sense of when I first tested positive and my scan gestation etc!

please can someone off of my some reassurance or a reality check please xx

Brown means old blood so that means you’re not currently bleeding. I also experienced this up until about 9 weeks when I was pregnant with my last. I know you won’t stop worrying but it all sounds like it’s going well xx

and as a Midwife I absolutely know this and advise women this, but I just can’t seem to rationalise this with myself at the moment. It’s like all my common sense has disappeared 😂
my next ultrasound is on the 16th and I’m holding onto the hope that things will be progressing as they should.
it just feels so hard to comprehend as just over a week ago I was told this wasn’t going to be a successful pregnancy so my head is all over the place x

I had weeks of brown spotting it even looked black at some point but I was reassured all was fine and I went onto have a great pregnancy.

MrsM2025 · 09/10/2025 10:18

I had brown spotting at a similar time with DD - she is now 20years old! Although we should always get these things checked out!

Absolutely, I have been fortunate to have 2 straight forward previous pregnancies with nothing like this so it’s all new to me personally.
as Midwives we do always say the third babes are the most unpredictable, so hopefully this little one will stick xx

I am the same I have had slow rising hcg. No other symptom other than brown spotting everyday. I had a scan that showed a yolk sack and need to wait til the 20th for another scan. So no idea what's happening. But I don't feel this is going to go well. I have had 2 previous miscarriage both different from this one.
Hopefully everything is ok for you.

I hope it all goes well for you too, I really do!

i have no idea when I conceived due to my late ovulation. I only attended EPAU due to how faint my positive my test was and that I had severe cramping for a week before that led me to believe something wasn’t right.
my first BHCG was only 31- 48 hours later only 39- 48 hours later only 59- this is when I wasn’t given a good prognosis.
they left me for a week and that beta had more than doubled each day at over 1200. The doctor was very suprised but thinks that the first group of blood tests were just because I was so early and that this can happen 🤷🏼‍♀️
obviously further reassured since my scan on Monday and I have had no cramping since that first week.
the spotting seems to be stopping now, I really hope it doesn’t start up again.
my next ultrasound is on the 16th and I think I’ll have drove myself well and truly insane by then! X

I was the same my tests were faint. So I assumed fro. Early on I was miscarrying. Then I got my hcg. They went up 19% then up to 1700 no idea what they are now as waiting to see what the scan says. I know I ovulated later but I should be further on than the yolk sack.

Fingers crossed that's the spotting stopped for you and your scan goes well.
It's so long to wait with the unknown.

How many weeks do you think you were when they saw the yolk sac?
just try to remember every pregnancy develops at a different rate. A Midwife colleague and close friend of mine attended for a scan when she was absolutely sure she was 7+ weeks but they dated her at 5+4 and no heart beat, she attended 10 days there was the heartbeat- she’s now 30 weeks pregnant and still baffled as the dates don’t match up.
Also bare in mind early scans and accurate at dating, that’s why they are officially performed at 12-14 weeks as sometimes these people these little ones take a little bit of time to catch up.

I am saying all this to reassure you but cannot reassure myself 🤣

please update with your next scan!
fingers crossed for you it will all be ok x

Apologies I don't know how I missed this.
My first scan I should have been 6+ weeks. No yolk sack. The a few days later I had a yolk sack.
I am still spotting with occasional red blood. I tested positive this morning and it was a strong positive.
Honestly I've turned to chat gpt and the math/dates do work out as I ovulated later but I can't get my head around it.
20th is so long away.
Thank you for reassuring me. You will have seen so many outcomes as a midwife. It's a shame you can't just get a quick scan on your break.
Fingers crossed everything works out for you and let me know how you get on with your scan. X

UPDATE:
UPDATE;
Brown spotting/discharge completely stopped following 8 days- ultrasound performed today with good progression from the last one 10 days ago- fetal pole and cardiac activity seen ❤️
Measuring a little bit behind at 6+2 but sonographer states this can be out be around 5 days and by 12 weeks it’s possible that baby would have caught up ❤️

Loads of waiting. So glad you saw a heartbeat.

I'm still spotting and I don't feel like it's going to be a good result for me. I took a test and feel like it was a bit lighter than the others. I could just be imagining it though. Its early on Monday so I will let you know.

@Jessrae had my scan this morning and just home from the hospital. It's not good news for me and I've started the medical management.
On the plus side I have now been referred to the recurrent miscarriage unit. So fingers crossed for the future.

Hope you are well.
